GeographyThe United States of America is the world's third largest country in size. About 3 other countries have more people than USA. On the west side of the country is the Pasific Ocean and on the east the Atlantic Ocean. There are 50 states in the country.

NatureThis big country has many types of nature areas. There are tropical beaches in Florida, high mountains, big prairie lands and deserts in the West. In the Northeast and Northwest. There are the Great Lakes, the Grand Canyon and the big Mississippi River.

There are many different animals here. The black bears, grizzlies, and polar bears are the largest meat eating animals. There are over 20,000 flower species and most comes from Europe. The bald eagle is the national bird and symbol of the United States and is protected.

HistoryFor many hundreds of years native people lived in the country. In the early 17th century, settlers moved from Europe to the New World. They chased away the native people.

The settlers wanted to get free from Britain and fought for their independence from Britain. They won and in the late 18th century, on July 4, 1776, a union of states became the United States.

People and CulturePeople from all over the world came here to get a better way of life. European settlers came to New England to get religious freedom and to own their own land. Many Swedes moved here because they were poor and didn’t own the land they lived on.

Government and EconomyCitizens over the age of 18 years old vote to elect the President and Vice President of United States every four years. The president lives in the White House in the capital city of Washington, D.C.
