Vision

The UP School of Economics as the leading institution in economics education and economics research in Southeast Asia.

Our goal over the medium term is to “recapture” and maintain this position.

Review of UPSE VMG

1. Activate PCED-supported institutes: ISIP, PIPER2. Improve incentives:

◦ Increase the prize for faculty international publications; ◦ Support grad students’ participation in international

conferences; ◦ Encourage grad paper presentations at PES◦ Data depository

3. PRE: Reconstitute editorial board; hire full-time managing editor; systematize refereeing process

4. Post DPs/PRE in selected online research archives.6. Partnerships in sponsoring public forums on economic

issues (e.g. Ayala, PES and others such as ADB)

Proposed activities

1. Activated PCED-supported institutes: ISIP, PIPER o First Annual PIPER Policy Forum on 16 January 2012o ISIP collaborative faculty research 2. Acquired a start-up fund of P5M for the UPSE Faculty

Incentive & Research Endowment, thanks to the alumni and batch ’86.

o The program will initially focus on (i) awards for international publications and (ii) travel grants for graduate students’ participation in international conferences

3. Partnerships in sponsoring public forums on economic issues

o Renew MOA with Ayala Corporation

4. Pursued upgrade of the School’s physical facilities and equipment*o Major renovations include the UPSE auditorium

and roof rectification and water-proofing of roof deck

(first half of 2012)oRenovation of Computer Room (2011)o Improvement of Rooms 204 and 205 (2012)oRenovation of Room 127 (2012)oEstablishment of Financial Center at the 3rd Floor

of Library Bldg - Union Bank

Negotiations between PIDS and PCED to allot one-storeyfor the UPSE/PCED in the PIDS building that will be constructed at the Global City,Taguig
