A MESSAGE FROM THE UPPER HUTT CITY FOOTBALL CHAIRMAN,
PETER THOMAS
WELCOME
Welcome to the 2013 Upper Hutt Car Sales Upper Hutt under 19 Football Tournament. This event has been a permanent fixture on the U 19 calendar for 26 years, and assists teams in the Lower North Island prepare for the National Youth Tournament in Napier at Labour Weekend. We have record entries this year, with 20 teams participating in the main event and 6 teams in our academy grade.
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome players, coaches, managers and supporters of all teams and wish you a successful weekend of football. We are very excited to be hosting this event from our spectacular new home at Maidstone Park. We hope you enjoy our hospitality in the new clubrooms. We are using three grounds at Maidstone Park for the main event with one group also playing at Harcourt Park, while the academy grade will play at Awakairangi Park as in previous years.
As always we expect some very competitive matches, with the added spice of clubs renewing old rivalries with passion and commitment. This is what football is all about and we trust all participants will respect the laws of the game and ensure the matches are played in a good spirit.
I would also like to make special mention of our referees this weekend, we are very grateful to them for contributing their time, and I urge everyone to treat the officials with the respect they deserve.
Finally, a special thanks to the committee members and volunteers of the Upper Hutt City Football Club, who without you there would be no tournament, and a big thanks to our Clubs major sponsor Upper Hutt Car Sales and to Infinity Foundation for their support of this tournament.
Enjoy the weekend and good luck to all!

Tournament History The Upper Hutt U19 tournament was first played in 1987. It started as a result of local Hutt Valley teams not having access to grounds yet wanting to get games under their belt to prepare for the U19 tournament in Napier.
After talking to a number of local coaches who expressed their frustration about the limited build up available for Napier, the Upper Hutt club offered to host a mini Napier tournament that would be held 3 weeks before Labour weekend. The grounds were booked, referees arranged and six teams, Upper Hutt, Lower Hutt, Petone, Stop Out, Wainuiomata and Stokes Valley played that first weekend, with the home team being the eventual winner. The club was asked to hold the event again the following year and invites were sent to all Wellington teams going to Napier plus an invite was sent to Napier City Rovers.
12 teams played that year including Napier with Miramar being the winners.
After the success of the second year Upper Hutt has continued to host the event aimed at giving all teams good preparation for Labour weekend in Napier. Since 2004 other Wellington clubs not going to Napier but who had an U19 team in the Ivan England competition have also started to enter the Upper Hutt tournament lifting entries to nearly 20 teams. Over the years not only have Wellington teams been involved but teams from Napier, Castlecliff, Wanganui, Palmerston North, Taranaki, & Wairarapa have also entered.
What started out as a way to help local teams going to Napier prepare for the tournament, has now become so much more.
