President’s Message By: Damon McClure

Hello, Central Oklahoma Chapter! I hope everyone had the chance to make the trip to Chicago for the Winter Conference. Based on listed numbers in various ASHRAE publications, there was 2,155 exhibitors, including 660 international exhibitors, covering over 530,010 square feet; which are all records over previous years. If you have not ever been to Winter Conference, you are missing out on one of the largest industry expos, and I would highly encourage attending it. Now that everyone is back and trying to catch up at work, we have a busy next two months with several chapter functions scheduled.

This month’s meeting will be an afternoon meeting at 3pm, in lieu of a lunch meeting.

We will be touring Chesapeake Energy Corporation Information Technology Computing Center (ITCC) and Central Plant in an open Q&A forum format. You should have already received a “Save the Date” Evite (with a parking site map) for registration. Registration will help our organizer to schedule the correct number of tour liaisons and help with onsite parking. Lastly, March with be a busy month: the chapter will host our third annual sporting clay shoot at Silverleaf Shotgun Sports in Guthrie on the 9th; March’s chapter meeting will be Spouse’s Night at Remington Park on the 15th, and Day on the Hill is tentatively scheduled for the last week in March. The sporting clay shoot will be our final RP event to close out the chapter year before CRC. The willingness of our members to give at these events will aid in reaching our chapter’s overall RP goal, as well as sow seeds into our new COK ASHRAE Scholarship Endowment over the next several years. Upon maturation, this endowment will provide a self-sustaining source for additional scholarships to our students.

Our Student Activities have contributed to our chapter this year in various ways. We had the largest student

contingent at the Winter Conference in recent memory, with 14 total students; eleven from Oklahoma State University and three from Oklahoma University. They were chaperoned by two professors from Oklahoma State University, Dr. Bradshaw and Dr. Bach. Through generous donations, chapter budgeting, and help from Student Activities RVC, our chapter was able to financially assist in sending these students to Chicago in January. Finally, the new University of Central Oklahoma student branch was approved at Winter Conference by Members Council. Our chapter is currently working on an induction ceremony for this student branch at an upcoming event.

To conclude, we are heading into the home stretch coming into this year’s CRC. We are finishing strong with several chapter committees working to determine key chapter items. As mentioned last month, the Nomination Committee met in late December to determine nominations for the next slate of Board of Governors and Secretary Officer position. The focus of the Nomination Committee was based on the Chapter’s newly developed Long Term Strategic Planning Outline provided to our Region’s DRC in December. Nominations will be presented to the chapter during our February Chapter meeting. Also, as mentioned previously, the Chapter’s Scholarship Committee selected Bryce Wilmore and Aaron Gooden as the two $1,500 scholarship recipients. Bryce and Aaron will be presented with their awards during March’s Chapter meeting. Lastly, Brian Sauer, our chapter Sustainability Chair, is finalizing the details for two sustainability events. Our chapter will continue with two volunteer efforts from past years: we will work with Rebuilding Together in March, and we will pick up trash along the Boathouse District for the Oklahoma City Boathouse Foundation. Contribute with purpose for the future growth of our chapter and our society!

Data Center Fire Protection System:

Double interlocked pre-action sprinkler system

Data Center PUE Design: 1.4

Power usage effectiveness (PUE) is a measure of how efficiently a computer data center uses energy; specifically, how much

energy is used by the computing equipment (in contrast to cooling and other overhead).

PUE is the ratio of total amount of energy used by a computer data center facility to the energy delivered to computing equipment.

PUE was developed by a consortium called The Green Grid. PUE is the inverse of data center infrastructure efficiency (DCIE). An

ideal PUE is 1.0. Anything that isn't considered a computing device in a data center (i.e. lighting, cooling, etc.) falls into the

category of facility energy consumption.

PUE= Total facility energy divided by IT equipment energy.
