EnergyCalc Saving energy with sustainable lighting solutions from Grainger

Smart thinkingUpgrading your lighting systems is one of the easiest and most cost-effective ways to

reduce your facility’s electricity consumption. In addition to helping to reduce your carbon

footprint, energy-efficient lighting can also make a real difference in your electricity bill

each month.

With the Smart Solutions EnergyCalc, you can easily estimate your potential savings for

a single fixture upgrade and then see how the savings quickly add up across your facility.

Step 1Choose an upgrade for your calculation. Use the System Upgrade Chart below to locate your existing system and the proposed

upgrade to see the savings (in watts) that the upgrade would provide.

Step 2Determine the “cost of one watt.” Use the Cost of One Watt Chart to calculate

how much each watt costs for your specific

application. For example, if the fixture you’re

considering operates 16 hours a day (5800 hours

a year), and your cost per kWh is $0.12, each

watt that fixture consumes costs $0.70.

Step 3Calculate your annual savings for one fixture.Find your cost per watt on the outer ring of this wheel. Then, use the “Watts Saved”

number from your proposed upgrade to find your annual cost savings per fixture.

Step 4Calculate your total annual savings.Use your result from Step 3 to estimate your total annual fixture savings based on the number of fixtures in your facility.

Take the next step!Don’t let those savings pass you by. Contact your Grainger representative today for a complete facility audit

or visit www.philips.com/advance to learn more about how sustainable lighting with Philips Advance

ballasts can deliver significant benefits for the environment and your bottom line.

What does that mean for the environment?

For every kilowatt hour of energy we save, up to 1.4

pounds of CO2 from fossil fuel-burning power plants may

be prevented from entering the atmosphere.1 And as the

energy savings add up, so do the environmental benefits.

A single fixture upgrade that reduces energy consumption

by 78W could reduce CO2 emissions by 491 pounds per

year.2 For a facility with 1,000 such fixtures, that’s 254

tons of CO2 prevented each year, which is equivalent to

the CO2 absorbed by 57,600 trees.3
