Claire NolanPresident ofAlki Tours, GTE & lifelong World Traveller

For the past two decades our overriding mission has been to bring joy to the lives of our customers.  We have continued to expand and come up with more exciting trips including journeys by train, small ship river cruises and a partnership with Public Television.

In this brochure we are including epic journeys from our sister company Great Train Escapes.  I love the leisurely pace train travel provides.  It is so awesome to experience scenery only accessible by train and to have the freedom to be as social or exclusive as you desire.  On our trips, each new turn of the track brings another heartwarming story or historical tidbit from your charming guides.

You step into the open air vestibule to taste the sweet mountain air. Before you know it, you’re wrapped in conversation with one, two...three new friends. On each of our Great Train adventures, you will travel by train during the daylight hours. As the evening sun casts a golden glow on the landscape, you climb off the train–and into a comfy hotel bed. Ahhhh, the serenity.

At almost every destination, there’s an opportunity to experience more. From trekking through ancient glaciers to helicopter tours, you’re cramming in more adventure than the Indiana Jones Trilogy.

Over the years, I’ve written lots of articles on “bucket list” trips.  I know it’s an over-used term but I can’t help but gush about just how incredible these trips are. Put them on your list and join us.

Land and cruise only

Vietnam and Cambodia–Sail the MekongI just returned from an incredible river cruise in Vietnam and Cambodia.  Prior to heading to  seeing Cambodia and Vietnam my knowledge was limited to  of public television specials and travel articles. But I have always known that even though their culture is completely different from mine, their history is ancient and fascinating.

It has been my life philosophy throughout 25 years of  international trips that we enrich ourselves by encountering people from other cultures, enjoying their natural surroundings, and tasting their cuisine. We thereby come to appreciate the humanity in us all.

We have planned this trip to be a journey you will never forget.  From the awe-inspiring Angkor temples to the pulsating city of Saigon, together we will experience the past, present and future of this vital region along its most storied waterway, the Mekong. Our journey

begins in the town of Siem Reap, where we explore the history and culture of the Khmer empire as seen in the breathtaking ruins of Angkor, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

We will also explore the natural environment of the jungle that once hid these archeologi-cal treasures. From Siem Reap we cruise the Mekong River down through remote villages, sighting the rare freshwater Irrawaddy dolphins and witnessing the rural life of Cambodia.

Our river ship, the RV Tonle Pandaw, balances traditional style with modern comfort. Our journey culminates in the vibrant city of Saigon.  We have chartered our gorgeous teak- filled ship that only carries 50 passengers.  We welcome you to join us on this journey of a life-time.
