His dedication, commitment and hard work in making sure the school grounds and facilities are well managed and maintained is greatly appreciated by the school community. No job is too big or small for Mr Jensen who works tirelessly with great pride. Congratulations on this well deserved award. MAINTENANCE UPGRADE There has been significant work done at EHS recently with a major maintenance program in place. Numerous classrooms have been re-painted and carpeted, railings painted, new guttering and external painting being completed. The hall is receiving a much needed face lift with internal painting which will make a huge difference as well. The safety in the car park has now been improved with the installation of a small round about to allow for easy access allowing 2- way traffic flow. The biggest news is of course, the upgrade of the change rooms. We are particularly delighted with this outcome and welcome the new facility for our students. I appreciate staff and students accommodating the disruption while this work is being completed and my sincere thanks to Mr Jensen who has been successfully managing the many trades involved with such a large scale project. UNIFORM Thank you to the many families who have strongly supported our uniform code. I appreciate the effort students make to be in full school uniform as it demonstrates the pride we have at EHS. As the weather is now much cooler students need to ensure they are wearing the winter school uniform and not variations of this. I have attached a copy of the uniform code as a reminder (at the end of the newsletter). If families need assistance with uniform, please contact me at school.  BUSWAYS SCHOOL OPAL TAP CAMPAIGN TERM 2 Term 2 will see Busways continuing to look to your school for support in our efforts to enforce the use of Opal cards on our buses. This term will see Busways Inspectors checking to ensure students are using their Opal cards when boarding the school bus. Students that do not present a valid Opal card will be asked to pay a fare. Failure to produce a valid Opal card or bus fare will result in the Inspector recording the student’s name. Below is an example of the form our Inspectors will use.

After the school inspection the names that were recorded will be emailed to the school, with a request for the school to follow-up with the students and parents/guardians concerned. All students need to produce a •School Opal card •Child/Youth Opal card •Or pay a fare to travel on our buses. Please explain to the students and parents involved that an Opal card is important because it is used to determine demand for bus services. If students don’t have an Opal card to tap on and off the service will appear underutilised and may be considered for cancellation based on low passenger numbers. For students who currently do not have an Opal card, please direct them to the Opal website: www.opal.com.au/en/about-opal/opal-for-school-students/

************************************************** SCIENCE FACULTY The Year 11 Chemistry class went to Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation at Lucas Heights in Sydney as part of their Depth Study. The students completed some practical investigations around measuring Radiation and went on a tour to look at the OPAL reactor, the manufacture of the radioisotopes for medical and engineering use as well as the particle accelerator for use in diagnostic purposes. It was an amazing time and the students were treated with a very knowledgeable tour guide who discussed the Chemistry behind the Open Pool Australian Light water reactor (OPAL) and how medical isotopes are made for use in the country. The development of the silicon for use in computer chip technology was of special interest. After an early start and a long day the students had an opportunity to see the new radioisotope manufacturing facility as it had only been operating for 2 months. A discussion on the management of nuclear waste also took on new meaning with the Soccer field the main site for accidents in the whole facility. Maybe we will have some future Radiation specialists from this class. Our students are to be commended for their enthusiasm and the way they conducted themselves throughout the day. I received many favourable comments from ANSTO staff of the genuine interest our students had for Chemistry. Brian Huntington Head Teacher Science

16 BOYS’ RUGBY LEAGUE Well done to the Boys’ 16's Rugby League side who travelled to Gumbuyah Oval in North Lakes to compete in the annual All Schools Competition. Our boys started the day extremely strong with a great 10-4 win over Brisbane Water. Full of confidence the boys started their second match against Mackillop on fire, scoring two quick tries and holding Mackillop scoreless in the first half. However, a mistake off the kickoff in the second half saw our boys drop their heads and Mackillop scored their first four pointer. Unfortunately the boys couldn't regain their confidence and Mackillop put on a further two tries wining 12-10 in a very tight last minute. Game three saw the boys needing a victory to make the finals. They came up against a strong Narara Valley side and once again a mistake off the kickoff put us on the back foot. Down 10-0 at half times the boys rallied hard in the second half with Finn Douch scoring a 50m try to close the margin. Unfortunately, Narara scored late in the match off a very well placed kick to win 16-6.

Player of the day went to Rylee Walton who lead the tackle count and provided excellent service from Hooker. Coaches Player goes to Kobe Titus whose enthusiasm was infectious, both in the warm up and with every run he made. Special mention also goes to Matt Forrest who had a 100% conversion rate of ball touches to tries. Well done boys. Coach Keyes
