Connecting Points
During the next couple of months, the sermons at the Traditional worship service will connect with a book by Hal Knight entitled, Eight Enriching Practices of United Methodists. The series is called Basic Training and is an opportunity for us to reconnect with our Wesleyan heritage and become (more) intentional about growing and expressing our Christian spirituality through these practices. Pastor John and I will be team teaching the book during WEAC, and so, if you would like to purchase the book they are $8. You can write your checks to Hueytown F.U.M.C. By the way, reading the book isn’t necessary for the class or the sermons, but I know some of you enjoy and prefer to have it. Our Sunday evening worship will focus on the topic of conflict and the series will start on September 18. We will look at conflict in 4 areas of life; Church, Couples, Workplace and Personal. Bruce Carpenter will be speaking at the service on September 11. We will not meet this coming Sunday night (September 4) because of the Labor Day holiday. Our attendance has been good during August and I hope we can continue the progress we are making and attract unchurched people in the future. I am thankful for all those who help plan and implement our worship experiences. They do a great job of helping us connect with God and one another. My hope is that we can learn to be a more outward focused church when making decisions about our worship and ministries, and that we can share radical hospitality with any and all who join us as the gathered people of God in this place. I hope all of you have a safe and enjoyable Labor Day Weekend and that your college and pro football teams have an exciting and winning season. See you Sunday as we express our hunger for God together. Pastor Dean

UPDATE ON THE BRIDE’S ROOM
&
THE PARLOR
The painting of the Bride’s Room
and the installation of the wood floor in
the Bride’s Room and parlor are complete
and look great. The furnishing of the
Bride’s Room is still a work in progress.
Several months ago, some of the
W.E.A.C. ladies began planning the
project of replacing the carpet in the
parlor with hardwood using money
accumulated over several years in the
W.E.A.C. account. When we began
planning to redo the Bride’s Room, we
decided to do the two projects at the
same time.
These projects took a village to
complete, and we are grateful to a
number of people. A special thanks goes
to Danny Karr (who put up blinds, a
ceiling fan with light fixture, etc.), Sharon
Sellers, and Joe Moses for a fantastic job
of painting the Bride’s Room. Thanks to
Bill Crump who replaced the countertop
in the bathroom area and put up the light
fixture, and to Harold Caine for his
plumbing work. Thank you to all who so
generously supported the fund-raiser
lunch sponsored by Alpha Fellowship and
Faith-Joy Fellowship, to all who did the
cooking, and to all who continue to give.
This is a special tribute to Anne
Thompson’s memory.
