Objective:

The 5th International Summer School on Land-Sky-Ocean, Harbin Institute of Technology, Weihai (HITWH-ISSLASO 2020) is the succession of the annual HITWH-ISSLASO and again provides a platform for the young talents worldwide to show themselves and conduct friendly competition together. The students will study a two-weeks exciting program in Weihai, one of the most beautiful and best livable cities in China, while having the opportunity to feel the featured highlights of HIT in ocean science and engineering, automotive engineering and aviation. Meanwhile, it endeavors to offer the students a platform to exchange and gain a valuable insight into the fascinating culture and heritage in Shandong and China.

Dates: Time Duration: July 13, 2020－July 25, 2020（13 Days） Application Deadline: April 30, 2020

Applicants: There is no limit to the major.

All enrolled undergraduate and postgraduate students, especially with interest in ocean

science and engineering, automotive engineering and aviation, as well as Chinese culture

are welcomed to this program.

Fees: The applicants for HITWH-ISSLASO 2020 will be exempted from the registration and tuition

fees. Also HITWH will bear the cost of local transportation, accommodation, and meals

expenses.

Applicants of HITWH-ISSLASO 2020 should pay the international round tickets, personal

passport and visa fees themselves. And the students will burden the expenses for

shopping and those during the time of free activities, and all other related fees.

Applicants should buy overseas accident insurance before joining HITWH-ISSLASO 2020.

Application Procedure: Please submit the Annex 1--Application Form of HITWH-ISSLASO before the application

deadline, April 30, 2020 to email isslaso@hitwh.edu.cn, and specify the name and the

University Introduction

As a world-renowned technical university, Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) is one of the first batch top 9 key universities involved in Project 985 of Ministry of Education in China, known as the C9 League, which means Chinese top nine universities. HIT owns three thousand high quality faculty members, among them there are 35 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. In HIT, 9 first-class disciplines belong to national key disciplines, and 10 disciplines are ranked in top five in China. The number of national key disciplines related to engineering in HIT ranks No. 2 in all of China. In recent years, HIT has become the 6 th best global university for engineering in the world.

Over thirty years ago, HIT started a new chapter in Weihai, a beautiful and best livable coastal city by the Yellow Sea. With three decades’ development, HIT, Weihai has now grown into a well-known campus and keeps step with HIT as it develops into a world-famous university.

HIT, Weihai now has more than 11,000full-time students, and 535 academic faculty members. There are eleven schools and department in HIT, Weihai, including the School of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, the School of Marine Science and Technology, the School of Automotive Engineering, the School of Information and Electrical Engineering, the School of Computer Science and Technology, the School of Material Science and Engineering, the School of New Energy, the School of Science, the School of Economics and Management, the School of Languages and Literature, and the Department of Civil Engineering. HIT, Weihai offers 37 undergraduate programs, and accord with HIT, Harbin in offering 39 Masters and 27 Doctoral programs. Besides, it offers two first-class discipline Masters Programs. In 2016, HIT Weihai founded the International School of Ocean Science and Engineering, led by a world-class international expert as its dean.

Activities in Sketch

Academic Seminar:

Five academic seminars by invited scholars and student preventative whose academic or research fields are related to the topics will be delivered of HITWH-ISSLASO 2020, inspiring all the delegates’ enthusiasm and thoughts. Delegates can absorb essential knowledge and interesting stories according to their tastes.

Language Study:

The Chinese Language training courses in HITWH are divided into two levels: primary and secondary, offering Chinese listening, speaking, reading, writing and cultural experience. During the HITWH-ISSLASO 2020, only primary level courses including 6 teaching hours will be applied. Delegate need to attend class and pass the examination by the end of the study.

Lab Tour and Practice:

Delegates will be invited to pay a visit to laboratories at HITWH. Experimentation and practice is the key to the evolvement of technology and exploration will spur our innovation.

Cultural Experience:

Delegates will have a first-hand experience on various forms of Chinese traditional culture, such as calligraphy, paper cutting, taichi, and dumpling making. This can be a very moving but enjoyable experience – both for us to deliver and for you to receive.

Moreover, the exchange of culture in own country will offer the delegate representatives chance to show his/her country and special cultural stories with all the participants and to enrich everybody the knowledge you may do not know before.

Recreational Activities:

Some recreational activities, such as fun games competition, beach volleyball, and talent shows in the farewell party will be arranged to break the barriers between participants, to increasing communications between delegates and to help build long-lasting friendships.

Besides, the visit to Changyu Wine Museum, Huancui Pavilion, Weihai Folk Culture Village, and Huaxia Town will surely offer you the enjoyment on fine view, as well as the stirring Chinese civilization.
