Seventh Annual Saxophone Day
Director: Sarah Markham Special guests:
Charlotte Harding, Amy Green and Vera Fonte. Featuring: Quirk Saxophone Quartet,
University of Huddersfield Saxophone Ensemble, University of Huddersfield Saxophone Day Saxophone Orchestra and Jazz Ensemble.
Welcome to my seventh annual Saxophone Day at the University of Huddersfield. This year we are focussing on the saxophone from its inception to modern day. To celebrate International Women’s Day composer Charlotte Harding and saxophonist Amy Green will present their lecture-recital: 'Over 100 Years of Women and the Saxophone’. For those of you interested in historical and technical developments there will be presentations by Erik Claeys from Selmer and Kerry Long from Vandoren. As well as concerts and talks, you are welcome to play in the Saxophone Day Orchestra and the Jazz Ensemble. Both sessions will be preparing pieces that will feature in the 5:00 pm closing concert. A day like this would not be possible without the help of my saxophone quartet; Quirk. Thanks to Kenneth, Chris, and Sarah for their assistance in organising and running the workshops, and of course, for their friendship and great company. My Saxophone Day requires a lot of support, and I would like to thank my major sponsors: Yamaha, Vandoren, Selmer, and D’Addario Woodwinds. Thank you to the University of Huddersfield’s Centre for Music, Culture and Identity (CMCI) for their support of ‘Over 100 Years of Women and the Saxophone’. Thank you to Saxtet Publications and Forton Music for providing the music for the Saxophone Orchestra, also to Tom at Windstruments for his support, and the staff of the University of Huddersfield. Enjoy the day! www.sarahmarkham.co.uk www.hud.ac.uk/concerts
