ABOUT ACCREDITATION

Your goal is most likely to become a licensed physician in the United States orCanada. Our goal is to make sure that this happens. It is extremely important that themedical school in which you are enrolled is recognized by the ECFMG (EducationalCommission for Foreign Medical Graduates) the organization which grants you theright to take all three steps of the United States Medical Licensing Exam ( USMLE)which must be passed to become a practicing physician in the U.S. Recogition by theECFMG depends directly on whether or not the school is listed in the InternationalMedical Education Directory ( IMED) which provides an accurate and up-to-dateresource of information about international medical schools that are recognized bythe appropriate government agency in the countries where the medical schools arelocated. The agency responsible for this recognition in most countries is the Ministryof Health. Medical schools that are recognized by the appropriate agencies in theirrespective countries are listed in the International Medical Education Directory.

A medical school is listed in IMED after the Foundation for Advancement of International Medical School Education and Research ( FAIMER) receives confirmationfrom the Ministry of Health or other appropriate agency that the medical school isrecognized by the Ministry or other agency. FAIMER also updates the InternationalMedical Education Directory as information about medical schools is received fromMinistries of Health or other appropriate agencies, including the World HealthOrganization (WHO).Please note that the WHO is in the process of replacing their World Directory of Medical Schools. As explained on their website , the Directory will be replaced by anew, more comprehensive global database maintained by the University of Copenhagen, Denmark.

The EHFCN was established formally in 2005 to coordinate and advance efforts tocounter healthcare fraud and corruption in Europe .Its foundations lie in the European Healthcare Fraud and Corruption Declaration ,agreed by the delegates of the first pan European conference held in London in

October 2004.The Network is a not-for-profit organisation, based in Brussels, financed throughsubscription fees and the only European organisation dedicated to combatinghealthcare fraud and corruption across Europe. In aggregate, the memberorganisations of EHFCN provide healthcare services to about 400 million people inEurope.
