NC 2-1-1United Way and the Chatham County Public Health Department maintained NC 2-1-1, a free, confidential, multilingual resource, to help connect Chatham residents to health and human services. It is accessible by simply dialing 2-1-1. Callers can speak to a live operator 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Information is also accessible online at www.nc211.org.
Last year, 212,965 calls representing 248,864 needs were served by NC 2-1-1 call specialists statewide. Data regarding the most requested resources in Chatham is available online, which ensures that United Way funding is directed to the most critical needs in the county.

As a result of the coronavirus public health crisis, our non-profit partners spent 2020 pivoting and feeling the strain from the impacts of the pandemic. In many instances, demands for services doubled or tripled, while they simultaneously navigated the challenges presented by decreased financial resources. Non-profits also faced the additional challenge of providing support to those in need, while they suffered reduced staffing levels and fewer volunteers to sustain their respective missions.
OUR RESPONSE:
In March of 2020 United Way of Chatham County launched the COVID-19 Response Fund. Through generous donations from business donors and individual members of our community, the fund supported organizations serving our most vulnerable residents in the areas of food, rental assistance, prescription assistance, childcare services and mental health services. Throughout the course of the year, United Way of Chatham County granted nearly $100,000 to our partners to meet the ongoing needs of our community.

DAY OF SERVICEON SEPTEMBER 3, 2020 The United Way of Chatham County
hosted the first-ever
“The Chatham County Council on Aging was excited by the prospect of the community service day organized by the United Way of Chatham County and then overwhelmed by all the projects that were accomplished. At the Eastern Center in Pittsboro, we saw groups from Duke Energy, Chatham County government, and others actively engaged in painting and repairing our assistive equipment shed, power washing our porch and sidewalks, and landscaping. At the Western Center in Siler City, personnel from Chatham Hospital, the Sheriff’s Office, and others spruced up the outside with landscaping, painting and power washing. All of these important projects were completed with the 3Ws in mind. We are very thankful for this opportunity to participate in United Way’s community service day.“
– Dennis Streets, Executive Director, Chatham Council on Aging
The event kicked off the annual fall fundraising season and connected more than 100 volunteers to opportunities to serve throughout Chatham County. The day played host to nine in-person volunteer opportunities, three donation drop-off sites, and two virtual service opportunities via the United Way website.

DAY OF SERVICE“You wouldn’t think something so simple would make such a difference! The new sidewalks installed on the United Way Day of Service have enabled our staff to serve clients much more efficiently! We can now roll carts loaded with groceries and produce over a smooth, even surface out to our clients’ cars. Before we got the new sidewalks were poured, we fought with every crack in the cement and very uneven surfaces. It wasn’t very conducive to the increase in foot traffic we’ve realized during COVID. We are so grateful to those involved for making it so much easier to serve our clients curbside!”
– Melissa Driver Beard, Executive Director, CORA
