    General Assembly Sixty-fifth session

    Informal informal consultations on an outcome document of the high-level meeting

    on youth will take place on Monday, 20 June 2011, and on Tuesday, 21 June, at3 p.m. in Conference Room 6 (NLB).

    General Assembly Sixty-fifth session

    Meetings to elect the President of the sixty-sixth session, Vice-Presidents, Chairs and Bureaux of the Main Committees

    The General Assembly will hold a plenary meeting on Wednesday, 22 June 2011, at3 p.m. in the General Assembly Hall, to elect the President of the GeneralAssembly at its sixty-sixth session (agenda item 4). Immediately following theplenary meeting, the Main Committees will hold their consecutive meetings for thepurpose of electing their Chairs at the sixty-sixth session (agenda item 5) and theirrespective Bureaux. Immediately following the meetings of the Main Committees,the General Assembly will hold another plenary meeting to elect the Vice-Presidents at its sixty-sixth session (agenda item 6).

    The Chairs of regional groups who have not yet communicated their nominationsare requested to do so, as soon as possible , in order to facilitate the scheduledelections in a timely manner. Communications may be sent by e-mail([email protected] ) or sent by fax (1 (212) 963-3783). Telephone inquiries may beaddressed to the focal point, Ms. Mary Muturi (tel. 1 (212) 963-2337).

    The Department for General Assembly and Conference Management (DGACM)invites all delegations to respond to the online Survey of Conference Services .This e-survey aims to assess client satisfaction, while feedback will highlight, wherenecessary, areas for improvement in the quality and delivery of DGACM services .

    Prepared statements

    Speakers in the Security Council are advised that providing in advance copies of prepared statements which they intend to read out in the Council greatly facilitatesthe work of the Secretariat by permitting a sufficient number of copies to bedistributed to all meeting participants and by assisting interpreters, verbatimreporters and press officers in maintaining the quality of the product delivered.Both interpretations and verbatim records rely upon the statement actuallydelivered, but copies of texts help interpreters to correctly render details andnuances and help verbatim reporters to produce the written record more quickly.Speakers are therefore encouraged, whenever possible, to provide copies of theirstatements, as early as possible in advance of delivery, to the Conference Officer in theChamber.

    At its 6556th meeting, held in private on 17 June 2011, the Security Councilconsidered the question of the recommendation for the appointment of the Secretary-General of the United Nations.

    Having considered the question of the recommendation for the appointment of the Secretary-General of the United Nations,

    Recommends to the General Assembly that Mr. Ban Ki-moon be appointedSecretary-General of the United Nations for a term of office from 1 January 2012to 31 December 2016.

    6557th meeting Threats to international peace and security caused by terrorist acts

    The agenda was adopted without objection.

    The Council began its consideration of the item on its agenda.

    The President drew attention to the text of a draft resolution contained in documentS/2011/368 , submitted by France, Germany, Portugal, the United Kingdom of GreatBritain and Northern Ireland and the United States of America; and on the text of another draft resolution contained in document S/2011/369 , submitted by France,Germany, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the UnitedStates of America.

    The Council proceeded to vote on the draft resolutions ( S/2011/368 and S/2011/369 )before it.

    Decision: The draft resolutions ( S/2011/368 and S/2011/369 ) received 15 votes in favour, none against and no abstentions, and were adopted unanimously as resolutions1988 and 1989 (2011), respectively.

    The Council heard statements by the United States, Germany, India, the RussianFederation, France, Portugal and the United Kingdom.

    6558th meeting (closed) Meeting of the Security Council with the troop and police contributing countries pursuant to resolution 1353 (2001), annex II, sections A and B

    United Nations Disengagement Observer Force

    The Security Council met in private. At the close of the meeting, the followingcommuniqu was issued by the Secretary-General in accordance with rule 55 of theprovisional rules of procedure of the Council:

    On 17 June 2011, the Security Council, pursuant to annex II, sections A and B of resolution 1353 (2001), held its 6558th meeting in private with the troop-contributingcountries to the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force.

    The Security Council and the troop- and police-contributing countries heard a briefingunder rule 39 of its provisional rules of procedure by Mr. Wolfgang Weisbrod-Weber,Director of the Asia and Middle East Division of the Department of PeacekeepingOperations.

    Members of the Council, Mr. Weisbrod-Weber and representatives of participatingcontributing countries had an exchange of views.
