Passive: This fork is used by people for eating.

Grammar: the passive

•The object of the active sentence becomes the subject of the passive sentence.

We use the passive when….

•We often use the passive when we are more interested in what happened to someone or something than in who or what did the action.

• In passive sentences we can use ‘by + the agent’ to say who or what does the action:

e.g.

More and more places are going to be affected by climate change in the future.
