Once the unit is installed, it should be placed across the filter bank. </p> <p>The economizer is used for free cooling when the outside air and return air temperature can be mixed to achieve the desired discharge air temperature. (ie if the return air is 70 degrees and the outside air is 50 degrees and you want 60 degree discharge air, both dampers will be 50% open. The advantage is your chiller and chilled water pumps or your condensing unit can remain off additional energy savings). If humidity is a concern, you can get a dual enthalpy economizer which will compare not only temperature but also the humidity of the outside and return air.
