HOME OWNER’S BOARD Deb Engstrom, President
Greetings, Please read this very, very important message about gating our community.
Mainlands Unit 3 has a very important decision to make about gating our communi-ty. You may not feel this decision affects you in any way, but if you live anywhere in the Mainlands, no matter what unit, it does affect you in some way. Take a step back and look at the big picture. Look beyond the Mainlands to the growth that is projected all around us. What is your vision for the future of the Mainlands community; this wonderful place that we all call home.
There are a lot of misunderstandings, misconceptions, and rumors out there. Some opinions are formed by people who did not attend a gate committee presentation and, therefore, do not have all the facts. As the board members learned at a recent training seminar, "You are entitled to your own opinion, but you are not entitled to your own facts." Please become educated on the topic and get the correct information so that you can make a decision based on fact.
If you have questions, concerns, need clarification, heard a rumor, etc. please call the Mainlands office at 573-5670 as your information source so that you will receive accu-rate up-to-date information. If you missed the gate informational meetings, the office has paper copies of the presentations available.
There will be a gate informational forum on WEDNESDAY, MARCH 7th, 7:00pm, Unit 3 clubhouse. Even if you have attended a gate information presentation in the past, you are still encouraged to come. There will be several people there that will have the facts, can answer your questions, and clear up any confusion. Before placing your vote, you owe it to yourself and all of your fellow Mainlanders to do everything you can to "get the facts.”
It is hoped that every household will take this important decision very seriously, by cast-ing a vote. When you do so, please consider that this vote is not just about you, or about Unit 3. It is about what the best option is for us, our friends, neighbors, and the entire Mainlands community as a whole.
Kind regards,
Deb Engstrom, President

The entire cast of Spotlight Dancers & Co. would like to say Thank You to Unit 3 for it's support and to all those who purchased tickets for the 2018 show, 'A Musical Cabaret'. We were sold out in two days. There will be an audience of nearly 100 for the March 15th performance and the proceeds will be donated to charity, which we will report on next month.
We will also be performing this month at Tamarac by the Gulf in Seminole, Fla. The Spotlight Dancers and cast have become a much sought after group in Pinellas County but, sorry to say, we were unable to fulfill all re-quested bookings this season. This is a very dedicated and talented group of performers who rehearse several hours each week to bring you a great show and we are proud to be part of Unit 3.
Unit 3 residents who are, or will be, 90 years of age in 2018 were honored at a reception recently. Susan
Mascolo has been coordinating this wonderful event for several years. She prepared remarks that were
“newsy” some 90-years ago and conducted a brief interview of each celebrant. Refreshments and a col-
orful sheet-cake were served.

The February Women’s Club meeting was “treated” to a fashion show of “lovely’s” from the Men’s Club. L to R
are Robbin Hudson (Robin), Adan Garcia (Chica), Dwayne Hicks (Red Hat Lady and Debby), Peter Cunning-
ham (Petunia and Patti), Jim Pennington (Jamie), Skip George (Skipper), Larry Rhoads (Bubbles and Linda),
and Dick Yelle (Lady Di and Dotty). Thanks to Unit 1 for lending us their “fashions.” Each model was left to
their own creativeness as they “worked” the room.
Helen Cunningham (rear) was videographer of the event. Her efforts are worthy of viewing on the web at

COMING IN MARCH: CAN YOU GUESS HOW MANY EASTER EGGS ARE IN THE BUNNY BOWL?
This will be the first of three contests we will hold dur-ing the year.
The person whose guess comes closest to the actual number of eggs without going over, will win $5 and a large chocolate bar.
The contest will begin on March 1st and end on March 29th.
The "bunny bowl" will be placed in the clubhouse.

AND pass this along to
your contractors:
No advertisement signs are allowed in yards. Per our handbook page 17, rule13. “Signs: No sign of any kind shall be erected or displayed upon any con-dominium property.”
WHAT IS THE 120 CLUB?
The 120 Club is administered by the
Social Club. Up to 120 people sign
up and pay $20. Each person is as-
signed a number. Weekly, from the
beginning of October to the begin-
ning of March, a number (name) is
drawn, and the winner collects $20.
At the end of the "Club" year, a ban-
quet is held and prizes are drawn;
$500, $300, $100, and a few $50.
The remaining money is used to fund
the banquet dinner. At the banquet,
people can sign up for next year and
keep the same number if desired.
Any vacancies are filled with new
members. The weekly drawings are
pulled on Thursday at Kaffee Klatch.

UP IN FLAMES
There’s a hidden fire hazard in almost every home….it’s the dryer vent! Over time, your dryer vent fills
with lint. Fires can occur when lint builds up in the dryer or in the exhaust duct. Lint can
block the flow of air, cause excessive heat build-up, and result in a fire. Have your vent pro-
fessionally cleaned by a certified appliance repair person.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission estimates that over 15,000 dryer related fires
occur each year causing an estimated 97 million dollars in property damage.
The Mainlands water distribution system is pretty basic: One main water pipe feeds water into our
community. The water passes through one water meter that determines the total number of gallons
used, and is then distributed to each of the 1937 homes in Mainlands. Each month the water consump-
tion of each household is determined by dividing the total gallons used by 1937 households. Therefore,
we all pay the same amount for our water each month.
DO NOT FEED THE WILDLIFE!!
There was an approximately 8 foot alligator pulled out of one of our lakes. The trapper felt that someone had been feeding it as it seemed to have no fear of him and it had a "fat" belly. Unfed gators have a slimmer profile. In Pinellas County it is unlawful to feed wildlife.
Food Pantry
There is a box in the clubhouse to collect your food donations. Please be generous with your canned goods and non-perishable foods. This is the time of year when no one should go hungry. Also check the expira-tion date – they will not be accepted beyond the expiration date. The items are picked up faithfully on the first Thursday of the month and delivered to the Lealman Food Pantry by Debbie & Dale Krumreich.
Potpourri Page Sometimes the Courier has an odd number of pages and we end up with a blank page. We pay for a
page whether it has print on it or not. So, I am filling this “blank” page with miscellaneous stuff of gen-
eral interest.
