UNIT 18 EVALUATION

By Anthony Richards

Page 2: Unit 18 evaluation

• We named our team WorldAd because it summed up our aim to create adverts that were universal and widely seen.

• We designed this logo to be appealing, eye-catching and memorable so that clients would see it and remember it.

• We came up with the name “Outbreak” for our product because it suggests something that starts out small, but quickly becomes a force to be reckoned with.

OUR TEAM

• This is my original idea. The aim was for it to simple, so that it would stick in consumer’s minds. However, this is probably too simple because it only features the name of the product and doesn’t provide any information about it. Another time, I would add a more information such as the slogan and name of the particular flavour being advertised.

ORIGINAL IDEA

Page 4: Unit 18 evaluation

• I decided to put the banner on YouTube because this is one of the most used websites on the Internet and known to almost all people within our target audience.

• I then looked at YouTube’s banner ad regulations so I could work to their standard of advertising.

WEB BANNER EVALUATION

• I used Adobe Photoshop CS5.1 as this was is the principal compositing software we have available.

• I then created a page that matched YouTube’s web banner specs to make it look authentic.

THE LOGO

• The logo was created on Adobe Illustrator CS5.1 using the “Line Segment Tool” to draw the logo.

• I then imported our logo onto the document.

• I put the logo in the top left hand corner and tilted it to make it look more interesting.

• I then added a black background with the “Paint Bucket” tool to look more in line with our other products and so it would appeal to the target audience more.

• I also added our logo to the bottom left hand corner of the advert so that in future marketing it will be instantly recognizable and so that we can utilise it as shorthand for our company.

• However, it used a lot of space and it was removed so I could add the image of our packaging which was deemed more important.

• I added both the name of the brand and slogan and also changed the position of the logo to make better use of the space in this image. However, it needs which is which: the name or the brand.

• I then composited an image of our packaging onto the poster and used the “transform controls” to make it the appropriate size and give it the best position in the poster.

• After completing the advert, I produced a mock-up page of what the advert will look like on YouTube to see what it will look like when it is on YouTube.

Web Banner Evaluation

• I think that my web banner was good because it was consistent with the rest of my group’s work. It was also well-laid out and included everything that a web advert should.

• However, it wasn’t that imaginative and wouldn’t stand out that much in a crowd. This could be improved by making it more colourful, though this would mean the rest of the group would have had to change theirs for them to appear uniform.

• I think that our presentation went very well. We used a script that allowed us to look more at the audience and so we did not have to improvise as much.

• However, some line readings were not very good and we didn’t always put enough energy in when we spoke.

• Next time, I think we would learn the script better so that we wouldn’t be struggling to remember our lines and we would have been able to concentrate on putting more effort into injecting emotion into our performance.

PRESENTATION

Page 15: Unit 18 evaluation

• Our group consisted of: Me, Jonathan and Harry.• I think that as a group we worked well as we

achieved our target of making our individual targets and our TV advert.

• When we were making our own adverts we worked well to co-ordinate our colour schemes as well as things like positioning to aid to keep in continuity with each other.

• We kept working well during the production of our TV advert, which included having to act and film at the same time which we organized well and were able to communicate well enough to adapt to changes in our script.

• I thought that the rest of my group’s work was good because it’s colour scheme and general layout was similar enough so that it couldn’t be mistaken for another brand. It was also produced at an high standard that ensured that it was good quality.

• However, I think that another time we would distribute the tasks better and maybe work on different areas at the same time.

COMPARISON WITH ORIGINAL IDEA

I tried to keep this design simple, to ensure that it catches the eye. However, it was too simple because it did not include our logo or slogan. To improve it, I decided to add our product name and logo and increase the size of the image overall.

I added an image of our packaging to show our audience what to look for in shops . This was not present in my original design because I was trying to ensure it was simplistic. After some consideration, I decided that it would be better if the audience knew exactly what the product looked like.

When I added the packaging, logo and slogan to the image, I had the issue of spacing it out. I decided to make all the text different sizes. In future, I would make sure the logo was at the top, so it wasn’t as confusing.
