The Global Studies Programme, initiated in 2001, is a two-year Master degree programme. The mission of the programme is to study globalization and the globalizing world from different regional and theoretical perspectives. The Global Studies Pro-gramme is conducted jointly by Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, the University of Cape Town, Jawaharlal Nehru University (New Delhi), Chulalongkorn University (Bangkok) and FLACSO Argen-tina (Buenos Aires). After successfully completing the two-year Master programme, a joint degree is awarded.

Students learn to approach the world and globalization from vari-ous regional perspectives, theoretical traditions and disciplines. The curriculum focuses on social theory, politics and the Global South. The global and multicultural experience of the programme is enhanced by the diverse composition of the group of students, who come from all parts of the world.

Since 2001, more than 200 students from over 60 countries and all continents have participated in the programme. More than 97 per cent have completed the GSP degree. To date, one third of the GSP students have moved on to complete their PhD de-grees; another thirty per cent work around the world in various international organisations and NGO’s; whilst the remainder have entered into various fi elds such as politics, journalism and busi-ness.
