TERM 3 DIARY DATES
Congratulations Ethan Franklin Well done to Ethan Franlkin who has been invited to The Australian Mathematics Trust Awards in Adelaide at Westminster Senior School on the 16th of October. Ethan achieved outstanding results in the Australian Maths Competition and scored in the 100th percentile for his year level and was awarded a high distinction. We all hope that Ethan enjoys the event. “I liked the competition because some of the questions are challenging. I like that you have to work out which questions to answer first based on how many points they are worth. I started with the easy ones because they were quicker and you still get points for them and that gave me more time to work out the harder ones at the end that are worth more points” Ethan Franklin. Junior Primary Vocabulary The Junior Primary Class have been hard at work putting into practice the new learning from the BIG 6 professional development day we hosted a few weeks ago. Alfie learnt that ploy means to have a plan. Bryn explained that his word was delirious and it meant that you are kind of all sleepy and dizzy and Jarley’s word was gloom and it means dark and spooky. Have a good week, Ashleigh.

Hi everyone, I hope you are all looking forward to the upcoming holidays. We have been very busy over the past few weeks with Indofest, Outdoor Classroom Day and Milo Cricket. Today we will be hosting Cummins Area School for kitchen and garden lessons. Looks like the weather will be perfect for the day. Thanks to Ben, Kyrie, Jamie and Justin for starting on fruit tree enclosures. Indofest Students enjoyed their time at Poonindie for Indofest. Students were involved in traditional dance, music, cooking and art. Thank you to Penny Ellin for organising the event and to the staff at Poonindie school for hosting the day. Outdoor Classroom Day Children enjoyed Outdoor Classroom Day which celebrated outdoor learning. The Junior Primary Class created facts and opinions based on their outdoor English lesson, worked on taking safe risks on an obstacle course and learnt about perimeter when constructing paddocks outside. The Upper Primary class enjoyed the challenge of cooking outside for their kitchen lesson. Milo Cricket On Friday some Upper Primary students travelled to Port Lincoln to be involved in Milo Cricket. All the students put in 100% effort and showed good sportsmanship. Mr Rowley’s group showed great persistence and team work on the day. Thank you to Mr Rowley for organising the event and umpiring on the day.
We played four games all up and we got defeated in two games and two games we won. It was a very fun and an exciting day. I learned how to catch the ball better—Monique Puglsey.
We went to Kirton Point school oval and played four games. I learnt how to be a better sport from the day and I enjoyed it—Declan Phillis.
29th Sept Last day of term, 2.30 dismissal

Shark Teeth
Sharks have the ability to regrow their teeth.
Sharks teeth are in rows and they grow out
towards the mouth. Teeth in the outer row
become worn and fall out or get pulled out when
biting. They have the ability to replace their teeth
by moving the row behind. Sharks that eat
different types of prey need different types of
teeth. Different sharks have different shaped teeth
for different reasons. In my opinion sharks look
scary and are lucky to have extra teeth.

we read and write opinions. The

and the italics part is our opinion.”

News from the Kitchen and the Garden
Kitchen News….Students have been continuing to practice planning, taking
initiative, independence, as well as their team, organisational and problem solving
skills in their kitchen lessons. Last week they cooked wood fired pizza for our
Outdoor Day.
The upper primary students enjoyed hosting the 8 Cummins students in week 5 and
sharing their pasta making knowledge with them. The Cummins girls were devo that
they had to miss last week’s visit due to an
excursion at their school but they re-joinined
us today for an outdoor lesson. Students
made Lemongrassade, Thai Pumpkin Soup,
Tzatziki, Falafels, flat breads, Couscous Tabouli
and had chocolate pudding oranges in the
pizza oven as a special treat. The rain was
testing but it was worth it when we got to eat.
Next week there are 37 year 5/6’s coming for
a final visit on Wednesday.
Garden News….Things continue to be a bit quiet in the garden, and bad
weather and other events and have impacted on garden lessons. The garden is
running so smoothly that there are not too many jobs to do at the moment. The
worm farm is up and running and the worms are very happy in their new home.
When you are in next, head down to the garden and have a look. Thanks to Kyrie who helped last week to have a bit of a tidy up
and for also picking up items for the working bee. Apologies for not being at the working bee but becoming a Granny takes
precedence. We have lots planted (broccoli , cauliflower,
cabbages, carrots, onions, leeks, beetroot, peas, lettuce &
fennel) but it is all very slow, and the mice ate seeds we
planted in the hot house. We will attempt to try again,
hopefully we have sorted out the mice. Hopefully we will
have some unique and interesting vegies to show off later in
the year. I have ordered some glass gem corn from Amazon,
looking forward to seeing how that goes. The purple broccoli
is just starting to develop heads so it will be interesting if that
tastes any different to the green variety.
Thanks to everyone who supported the raffle and curry
night. I have ordered new trolleys and garden forks, still
have a few more items to track down, will wait until they are
on sale. Thanks to Ben, Kyrie, Justin and Jamie for all their
hard work on Monday to prepare for the fruit tree enclosure.

FAREWELL FROM AVRIL
We arrived at the sheep pavilion at 8.15 and Wednesday the 6th of September, ex-
cited about the day’s events. We met up with Geoff Gale owner/exhibitor of the
Galaxy Park Stud and he introduced me to the other SAMM exhibitors.
My first sheep was class on wool and I was lucky enough to be awarded first place.
It was an awesome feeling and boosted my confidence. I then went on to help
Campbell Lawrie from Lawral Park Stud. Campbell shoed me how to prepare the
sheep by washing their faces, clip daggy wool and picking the straw off them. I
went on to be awarded another 6 first place ribbons.
Its was a fantastic experience. The skills that I learnt on the day will help me down the track as I
pursue and agricultural career, with sheep being the main focus.
I give my thanks to Geoff, Campbell and the SA Sheep Expo committee. It would have been nice to
stay for another day and do the Junior Judging. Iam looking forward to the next SA Sheep Expo in
2018.
COREY’S EXPO SCHOLARSHIP EXPERIENCE
This year I went to the Adelaide royal show 2017. It was a very fun week. I went with my pony Venus and
my other friends pony called Prudence. I also had other peoples ponies to ride. I rode a Shetland called
Muppet and a little pony called Sugar. They where every cute little ponies.
It is really fun the Adelaide Show. I did really well on Prudence but it was really disappointing because my
horse Venus went sore in her feet, so I didn't get to start her and I was very upset.
After all my classes I went on all the rides with my friends that live in Adelaide and that was really fun. I
really enjoy the Adelaide show because I meet new friends and I get to see my older friends which is really
good.
BIANCA’S ADELAIDE SHOW EXPERIENCE
Well, the time has come to say goodbye to everyone at Ungarra Primary School and the Ungarra community. This will be my last newsletter
article for Ungarra Primary School.
The School has been more than a work place. It has been about the staff, students, parents, families and community members. I would like to
take this opportunity to give a BIG THANKYOU to you all for your acceptance and support. You have made my time at Ungarra Primary
School as the Pastoral Care Worker a memorable one. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to be part of this special place. The School is
fortunate to have such great students, staff and the support from the parents and community members.
I have enjoyed getting to know you all and am sad that I am leaving. However, life is full of change, as the students will recognise as they move from Primary to High School to University or employment.
I want to take this moment to let you know that even though I have only been with you three terms; a shorter time than I had anticipated, I have learnt a lot from everyone. I have been fortunate to secure a new position at Ceduna School with 100 staff and 500 students, as the Pastoral Care Worker in term 4 and will continue with my studies. I am looking forward to this new challenge and to starting a new phase of my career. I hope that everyone achieves what will make them happy. All the best for the future. I will continue to pray for you
all.

Last week we had fun with emotions which involved making stress balls,
painting pictures of how we feel, making playdough faces and singing songs.
We breathe in, we breathe out—up to 100,000 times a day. Our lungs do an
important job. Below Mila show off the lungs she made this week as well as
her and Jayden’s transition information for next term.
Right: Dane was immediately drawn to the tractor book and enjoyed looking
at all the farm machinery and Below right: Callan show off his straw
painting which required a lot of lung work.
Thanks to Sofia and Tammy for helping.
Next week kids will have the opportunity to make a plaster footprint so
please bring along a small plastic container big enough for their foot.

BRING HOME A BIG BROTHER OR SISTER AND BRING FRENCH, ITALIAN OR SPANISH CULTURE
TO LIFE!
Why not volunteer to host an international student from France, Italy or Spain next year? We have a small group of delightful students coming to Australia for 11 weeks to immerse in local Australian culture, experience our High schools, sports, environment and lifestyle. All these international students are around 15 or 16 years old, speak excellent English, have their own spending money, cover all school expenses, and we arrange all aspects of their program. They are looking forward to joining an Australian family for a short term cultural immersion stay. It’s fun and interesting to help these young people achieve their Australian dream. If you would like to know more, please email your interest to ICM on [email protected] or call Georgie or Anja on 1800 500 501, or visit our website www.icm-education.com.
