Security & Access

FAO and IFAD staff can use the street-side and inner turnstiles with their own organizational badge. Please also advise [email protected] of your attendance.

All other participants should send a scanned copy of their photo ID to [email protected], by 25 June please, along with the dates of their participation in the meeting. On arrival at WFP, enter through the glass doors marked Visitor’s Entrance, show your photo ID at the Security window, and Security will issue you a visitor’s pass valid for the duration of stay you have indicated.

If issued with a one-day pass, you will need to leave your photo ID at Security and pick it up at the end of the day. If issued with a multi-day pass, you will not need to leave your photo ID at Security but you should have it with you at all times.

There may be a queue, so please allow additional time for admission.

Once you have your pass, register the serial number of your computer in the logbook, proceed through screening and baggage check, and use your pass to enter through the inner turnstiles.

After the first day on a multi-day pass, you should continue to use the Visitors’ Entrance but can proceed directly to baggage check without stopping at the Security windows.

Please make sure you return your pass to the Visitor’s Office and that you check out your computer at the end of your stay.

Luggage room: If coming to WFP directly from the airport, or going directly to the airport from WFP, you can ask Security for access to the luggage room, just outside the Visitor’s Office and before the inner turnstile. Please note the luggage room is not under Security surveillance so personal property left is the individual’s responsibility.

Convenient neighbourhoods nearer the city centre are Trastevere or Ostiense/Piramide - on the train line to Fiumicino which stops at Muratella station, in walking distance of WFP.

Meals

Meals can be purchased at either the Red Café or the staff canteen. Payment in cash, although the Red Café also accepts debit and credit cards.

Transport from Fiumicino Airport

Trains are available from Fiumicino Airport to Muratella, which is the nearest train station to WFP. You must take the trains going in the direction of Orte/Fara Sabina. DO NOT take the Leonardo Express train, which goes direct to Termini station, located in the city centre. Trains that stop at Muratella depart from Fiumicino Airport every 15 minutes between 5:57 and 20:27 and every 30 minutes between 20:27 and 23:27. The trip to Muratella (4 stops) takes approximately 16 minutes. Tickets cost Euro 8 and can be purchased at the train station at Fiumicino airport. Further information at this link.

Taxis are available outside the Arrivals hall. The fare to WFP is approximately Euro 40-50 and the journey takes approximately 20 minutes, depending on traffic. For a taxi from WFP, Security staff at the Visitor’s Office can assist you and taxis generally arrive within 5 minutes. Further information on Fiumicino airport taxis can be found at this link, but please note WFP is NOT within the Aurelian Walls, so the fixed rates do not apply.

Transport from Ciampino Airport (not recommended because of distance from WFP)

Transport from Ciampino Airport can be found at this link. Kindly note that it takes at least 45 minutes to get to WFP by taxi, depending on traffic. There is no direct public transport to WFP from Ciampino Airport. As above, the fixed rate for taxis from Ciampino Airport is not applicable for WFP. For further information, please contact us.

Public Transport

Public transport tickets are valid for all city public transport (city buses and trams, Metro and some rail services within the Rome urban area.

These 1.50 Euro tickets, valid for 100 minutes, can be purchased at vending machines, ticket offices at Metro stations (when staffed) and most newsstands / tobacconists. They can also be purchased at the WFP newstand.

Alternatively, 1 Euro tickets, that can be used only for train transport within a circumference including Muratella, can be purchased only at train stations and are valid for 90 minutes. Unlike the 1.50 Euro tickets, these tickets are not accepted on any other type of transport.

All tickets should be validated (punched with time and date) in nearby machines before boarding (trains) or once on board (buses and trams).

TIP: To avoid queuing at train and metro stations, try the newsstands located within the stations, which are usually authorized ticket vendors. Vending machines are often available as well.
