Bukhari: Volume 6, Book 60, Number 12:

Narrated Abu Huraira:

The people of the Scripture (Jews) used to recite the Torah in Hebrew and they used to explain it in Arabic to the Muslims. On that Allah's Apostle said, "Do not believe the people of the Scripture or disbelieve them, but say:-- "We believe in Allah and what is revealed to us." (2.136)

Bukhari: Volume 6, Book 60, Number 478:

Narrated by Aisha:

… Khadija then took him to Waraqa bin Naufil, the son of Khadija's paternal uncle. Waraqa had been converted to Christianity in the Pre-lslamic Period and used to write Arabic and write of the Gospel in Arabic as much as Allah wished him to write. …

Islamic Scripture (Preface to Sahih Muslim)

“The Qur’an is one leg of two which form the basis of Islam.

The second leg is the Sunnah [traditions to be believed and followed] of the Prophet.

What makes the Qur’an different from the Sunnah is its form. Unlike the Sunnah, the Qur’an is quite literally the Word of Allah, whereas

the Sunnah [which is comprised exclusively of Hadith or testimonies of what ht prophet said or did] was inspired by Allah but the wording and actions are the Prophet’s.

The Qur’an has not been expressed using any human words. Its wording is letter for letter fixed by Allah.

Prophet Muhammad was the final Messenger of Allah to humanity, and therefore the Qur’an is the last Message which Allah has sent to us.

Its predecessors such as the Torah, Psalms, and Gospels have all been super ceded.”

These are the sayings that the Angel Gabriel told Mohammed to recite every night and teach to his followers to recite.

Some of Mohammed’s followers may have written verses down during his lifetime.

The Qur’an was compiled after Mohammed’s death to prevent the revelations from being lost as men who knew Mohammed were killed in battle.

Mohammed never Spoke to Allah only Gabriel. No one ever saw or heard Gabriel but Mohammed.

Mohammed is the only prophet of Islam.

Ye have indeed in the Messenger of Allah a beautiful pattern (of conduct) for any one whose hope is in Allah and the Final Day, and who engages much in the Praise of Allah.

Note:“Prayer” and “reciting in he Qur’an” seem to be the same thing. “Recite” and “read” are used interchangeably also, but remember Mohammed couldn’t read.

Surah 73 The Enwrapped

O thou folded in garments!

Stand (to prayer) by night, but not all night,-

Half of it,- or a little less,

Or a little more; and recite the Qur'an in slow, measured rhythmic tones.

Surely We will make to light upon you a weighty Word.

Truly the rising by night is most potent for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (framing) the Word (of Prayer and Praise).

True, there is for thee by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties:

Your Lord surely knows that you are occupied with your devotions for nearly two-thirds of the night, or half the night, or one-third of it, as do many others with you.

Yet God prescribes the measure of night and day. He knows you

cannot calculate it, and so turns to you in benevolence. So recite as much of the Qur'an as you can easily.

He knows some among you will be sick, and some will be travelling over the earth in search of the bounty of God, and some fighting in the way of God.

So read as much from it as you can easily, and be firm in devotion, pay the zakat, and lend a goodly loan to God.

Sahih Bukhari Volume 6, Book 60, Number 201:

Narrated Zaid bin Thabit Al-Ansari: who was one of those who used to write the Divine Revelation: …

Abu Bakr sent for me … Umar was present with Abu Bakr who said, 'Umar has come to me and said, The people have suffered heavy casualties on the day of (the battle of) Yamama, and I am afraid that there will be more casualties among the Qurra' (those who know the Qur'an by heart) at other battle-fields, whereby a large part of the Qur'an may be lost, unless you collect it. …

"You are a wise young man and we do not suspect you (of telling lies or of forgetfulness): and you used to write the Divine Inspiration for Allah's Apostle. Therefore, look for the Qur'an and collect it (in one manuscript). " ….

I said to both of them, "How dare you do a thing which the Prophet has not done?"

Abu Bakr said, "By Allah, it is (really) a good thing. …”

So I started locating Quranic material and collecting it from parchments, scapula, leaf-stalks of date palms and from the memories of men (who knew it by heart). I found with Khuzaima two Verses of Surat-at-Tauba which I had not found with anybody else,

… The manuscript on which the Quran was collected, remained with Abu Bakr till Allah took him unto Him, and then with 'Umar till Allah took him unto Him, and finally it remained with Hafsa, Umar's daughter. …

The Qur’an was not assembled into one manuscript or book until after Mohammed’s death.

Page 14: Understanding Islam Part 1 Islamic Scriptures

Bukhari:V6B61N550: “The Prophet said, ‘It is a bad thing that some of you say, “I have forgotten such-and-such verse of the Qur’an.” For truly, I have been caused by Allah to forget it. So you must keep on reciting the Qur’an because it escapes faster than a runaway camel.’”

Bukhari:V6B61N552 :“The Prophet said, ‘Keep on reciting the Qur’an, for Qur’an runs away (is forgotten) faster than camels that are released from their tying ropes.’”

Bukhari:V6B60N8 : “Umar said, ‘Our best Qur’an reciter is Ubai. And in spite of this, we leave out some of his statements because Allah’s Apostle himself said, “Whatever verse or revelation We abrogate or cause to be forgotten We bring a better one.”

Bukhari:V6,B61N558: Aisha said, “Allah's Apostle heard a man reciting the Qur'an at night, and said, ‘May Allah bestow His Mercy on him, as he has reminded me of such-and-such Verses of such-and-such Suras, which I was caused to forget.’ “

Page 15: Understanding Islam Part 1 Islamic Scriptures

Bukhari:V6B61N561: It’s Wording Letter for Letter Fixed by Allah?

Umar bin Khattab said, “I heard Hisham bin Hakim bin Hizam reciting Surat-al-Furqan during the lifetime of Allah's Apostle, and I listened to his recitation and noticed that he recited it in several ways which Allah's Apostle had not taught me.

So I was on the point of attacking him in the prayer, but I waited till he finished his prayer, and then I seized him by the collar and said, "Who taught you this Surah which I have heard you reciting?“

He replied, "Allah's Apostle taught it to me."

I said, "You are telling a lie; By Allah! Allah's Apostle taught me (in a different way) this very Surah which I have heard you reciting."

So I took him, leading him to Allah's Apostle and said, "O Allah's Apostle! I heard this person reciting Surat-al-Furqan in a way that you did not teach me, and you have taught me Surat-al-Furqan."

The Prophet said, "O Hisham, recite!" So he recited in the same way as I heard him recite it before.

On that Allah's Apostle said, "It was revealed to be recited in this way."

Then Allah's Apostle said, "Recite, O 'Umar!"

Allah's Apostle then said, "It was revealed to be recited in this way."

Allah’s Apostle added, "The Quran has been revealed to be recited in several different ways, so recite of it that which is easier for you."

Page 16: Understanding Islam Part 1 Islamic Scriptures

Bukhari: V1, B1, N2:

“‘Allah’s Messenger! How is the Divine Inspiration revealed to you?’

He replied, ‘Sometimes it is like the ringing of a bell.

This form of Inspiration is the hardest of all and then this state passes off after I have grasped what is inspired.

Sometimes the angel comes in the form of a man and talks to me and I grasp whatever he says.’

Aisha added: ‘I saw the Prophet being inspired and (noticed) the sweat dropping from his forehead on a very cold day as the Inspiration was over.’”

Bukhari: V3, B27, N17:

"A man came to the Prophet while he was at Ji'rana.

The man was wearing a cloak which had traces of Khaluq or Sufra (a kind of perfume). The man asked (the Prophet ), 'What do you order me to perform in my 'Umra?'

So, Allah inspired the Prophet divinely and he was screened by a place of cloth.

I wished to see the Prophet being divinely inspired. 'Umar said to me, 'Come! Will you be pleased to look at the Prophet while Allah is inspiring him?'

'Umar lifted one corner of the cloth and I looked at the Prophet who was snoring. (The sub-narrator thought that he said: The snoring was like that of a camel…)

Islamic Scripture

1) Qur’an or Koran (Continued)

The Qur’an is establish letter by letter in Heaven, in Arabic only.

All translations are corrupt.

Many Muslims don’t speak Arabic and their situation today is similar to when Catholic priests read the Bible in Latin only.

Some memorize the Arabic words by sound but they are dependent on their “priests” to tell them what it means.

Muslim scholars may decide an Old Arabic word means something else today as science or morals change even if the meaning has been in use for 1000 years.

O wives of the Prophet, whosoever of you commits an act of clear shamelessness, her punishment will be doubled. This is how (the innate law of) God works inevitably. But whoever of you is obedient to God and His Apostle, and does the right, will be given a two-fold reward by Us; and We have a rich provision in readinessfor her. Surah 33:30-31

.

Page 18: Understanding Islam Part 1 Islamic Scriptures

When Science contradicted the Qur’an the meaning of the 1000 year old Arabic word

was changed from “clot of congealed blood” to “leach” This change is now offered as evidence that science proves the Qur’an correct.

1) Qur’an or Koran (Continued)

It is true that English translations of the Qur’an differ widely.

Some translators say this is because …

one out of every five sentences in the Qur’an makes no sense, and …

many words are missing and must be supplied …

other words appear only in the Qur’an and have no known meaning in Arabic

so that the translator must fill in what he thinks the Prophet meant to say while trying to add the missing grammar and content.

O Prophet! surely We have made lawful to you your wives whom you have given their dowries, and those whom your right hand possesses … as prisoners of war, and the daughters of your paternal uncles and …paternal aunts, …maternal uncles …maternal aunts who fled with you; and a believing woman if she gave herself to the Prophet, [and] if the Prophet desired to marry her– specially for you, not for the (rest of) believers; … in order that no blame may attach to you; … Surah 33:50

.

Five different English translations of :Surah 6 (The Cattle) :72

Ahmed Ali: Observe (your) devotional obligations and fear (God), for it is He before whom you will be gathered (in the end)."

The Noble Qur'an: And to perform As-Salât (Iqâmat-as-Salât)", and to be obedient to Allâh and fear Him, and it is He to Whom you shall be gathered.

Pickthal: And to establish worship and be dutiful to Him, and He it is unto Whom ye will be gathered.

Shakir: And that you should keep up prayer and be careful of (your duty to) Him; and He it is to Whom you shall be gathered.

Yusuf Ali: "To establish regular prayers and to fear Allah: for it is to Him that we shall be gathered together."

1) Qur’an or Koran (Continued)

A new revelation cancels or abrogates previous revelations,

Allah can change his mind.

You must know what order the verses in the Qur’an were given (They are not in order).

You may [O Muhammad] defer the turn of any of your wives you like, and may take any other you desire.

There is no harm if you take any of those (whose turn) you had deferred.

This would be better as it would gladden their hearts and they will not grieve, and each will be happy with what you have given her.

God knows what is in your heart, for

He is all-wise and benign.

Qur'an 005.069 “Surely, those who believe and those who are Jews, Sabians and Christians, whosoever believed in Allah and the Last Day, and worked good, on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve,”

The Noble Qur’an says: “This verse should not be misinterpreted. It was abrogated by 3:85 ( “If anyone desires a religion other than Islam (Surrender), never will it be accepted of him; and in the Hereafter He will be in the ranks of those who are losers.”). After the coming of Prophet Muhammad no other religion except Islam will be accepted from anyone.”

Abrogated - cancelled by a later revelation.

Note: the later revelation is in a verse that comes numerically before this earlier verse.

The surahs of Qur’an are ordered by length and usage, not by chronology.

The Nobel Qur’an translation lists some of the verses considered to be abrogated.

Islamic Scripture

1) Qur’an or Koran (Continued)

The Qur’an often deals with Mohammed’s personal wants and dislikes.

And know that whatever of war-booty that you may gain, verily one-fifth (1/5th) of it is assigned to Allâh,

and to the Messenger,

and to the near relatives [of the Messenger],

(and also) the orphans,

Al- Masâkin (the poor)

and the wayfarer,

if you have believed in Allâh and in that which We sent down to Our slave (Muhammad) on the Day of criterion (between right and wrong), the Day when the two forces met (the battle of Badr) - And Allâh is Able to do all things. Surah 8:41

Islamic Scripture

1) Qur’an or Koran (Continued)

The Qur’an often deals with Mohammed’s personal wants and dislikes.

O you who believe! Enter not the Prophet's houses, except when leave is given to you for a meal, (and then) not (so early as) to wait for its preparation.

But when you are invited, enter, and when you have taken your meal, disperse, without sitting for a talk.

Verily, such (behaviour) annoys the Prophet, and he is shy of (asking) you (to go), but Allâh is not shy of (telling you) the truth.

.

And when you ask (his wives) for anything you want, ask them from behind a screen, that is purer for your hearts and for their hearts.

And it is not (right) for you that you should annoy Allâh's Messenger, nor that you should ever marry his wives after him (his death).

Verily! With Allâh that shall be an enormity. Surah 33: 53

I remember …the inhabitants of Khaibar came out running on the roads. The Prophet had their warriors killed, their offspring and woman taken as captives. Safiya was amongst the captives, She first came in the share of Dahya Alkali but later on she belonged to the Prophet . The Prophet made her manumission (freedom given to a slave) as her 'Mahr (wedding gift).

Hadith and Sunnah(preface to Sahih Muslim hadith collection)

“Sahih Muslim is a collection of the sayings and deeds of the Prophet Muhammad. It is known as the Sunnah.

These reports of the Prophet’s sayings and deeds are called Hadith.

Muslim lived a couple of centuries after the Prophet’s death and worked hard to collect his Hadith.

Each report in his collection was checked for compatibility with the Qur’an.

The veracity of the chain of reporters, called an isnad, had to be painstakingly established.

Muslim’s collection is recognized by the overwhelming majority of the Muslim world to be one of the most authentic collections of the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad.”

It was grand … we reached Khaibar; and when Allah enabled him to conquer the Fort (of Khaibar), the beauty of Safiya bint Huyai bin Akhtab was described to him. Her husband had been killed while she was a bride. So Allah's Apostle selected her for himself and took her along with him till we reached a place called Sad-AsSahba,' where her menses were over and he took her for his wife. …

I recall … Kinana, the husband of Safiya, had been guardian of the tribe's treasures, and he was brought before the apostle, who asked where they were hidden. But Kinana refused to disclose the place. … Kinana was asked again about the remainder, but he still refused to tell. The apostle of Allah handed him over to al‑Zubayr, saying, 'Torture him until he tells what he knows', and al‑Zubayr kindled a fire on his chest so that he almost expired; then the apostle gave him to Muhammad b. Maslama, who struck off his head.

As Islam has come in contact with Christian morality parts of the early Histories of Mohammed have been deleted in modern versions.

Oh yes… “When the Apostle took Safiyah on his way out of town, she was beautified andcombed, putting her in a fitting state for the Messenger. The Apostle passed the night with her in his tent. Abu Ayyub, girt with his sword, guarded the Apostle, going round the tent until he saw him emerge in the morning. 2)Hadith or Hadeeth

a) The collected deeds and decrees of Mohammed.

If Mohammed is the example to follow we need to know what he said and did.

Without the Hadiths the rites of Islam are obscured.

How many time a day to pray

What to do on the pilgrimage to Mecca

Only to fast during daylight in Ramadan

How much to tax believers and non-believers

Dietary restrictions so as no to be defiled.

If you need to follow the ways of Islam to go to Paradise instead of Hell then you are depending on the Hadiths being absolutely true.

.

This woman poet said to us… “‘You obey a stranger who encourages you to murder for booty. You are greedy men. Is there no honor among you?’

Upon hearing those lines Muhammad said, ‘Will no one rid me of this woman?’

Umayr, a zealous Muslim, decided to execute the Prophet’s wishes.

That very night he crept into the writer’s home while she lay sleeping surrounded by her young children.

There was one at her breast.

Umayr removed the suckling babe and then plunged his sword into the poet.

The next morning in the mosque, Muhammad, said, ‘You have helped Allah and His Apostle.’

Umayr said, ‘She had five sons; should I feel guilty?’

‘No,’ the Prophet answered. ‘Killing her was as meaningless as two goats butting heads.’” Sirat Rasul Allah, Ibn Ishaq

b) Historical Works Biographies and Histories of Mohammed.

The earliest historian of Mohammed and Islam was ibn Ishaq, parts of his works are preserved in :

Sira Rasul Allah

and the

The History of Al-Tabari Ibn Hisham’s wrote in his edits of Ishaq’s Sira:

“I am omitting things which Ishaq recorded in this book. I have omitted things which are disgraceful to discuss and matters which would distress certain people.” Ishaq: 691

[Hisham’s manuscript is quoted as Ishaq because all of Ishaq's manuscripts except those copied by Hisham and al-Tabari (Tabari) have been lost]

.

I remember when …“Magic was worked on Allah’s Apostle so that he used to think that he had sexual relations with his wives while he actually had not.

…One day he said, ‘O Aisha, do you know that Allah has instructed me concerning the matter I asked Him about?

Two men came to me and one of them sat near my head and the other near my feet.

The one asked, “What is wrong with this man?”

“He is under the effect of magic.”

“Who cast the magic spell on him?”

“Labid, an Arab ally of the Jews and a hypocrite.”

“What material did he use to cast the spell?”

“A comb with hair stuck to it.”

“Where is that comb and hair?”

“In a skin of pollen of a male palm tree kept under a stone in the well of Dharwan.”

So the Prophet went to that well and took out those things, … “ Bukhari:V7 B71 N660

Page 31: Understanding Islam Part 1 Islamic Scriptures

Ibn Ishaq wrote his work Sira Rasul Allah in 783, it is the earliest work on the life of Mohammed.

No copies of ibn Ishaq’s original work remains but two early Muslim historians copied parts of his work.

Ibn Hisham called his work Sira Rasul Allah but admitted “I am omitting things which Ishaq recorded in this book. I have omitted things which are disgraceful to discuss and matters which would distress certain people.”

Sira Rasul Allah :691

Which means that Hadith, which is not quite “scripture” (but is the foundation for many beliefs) may be edited to remove things about Mohammed that might appear distressful or disgraceful. Current English revisions of Sira Rasul Allah leave out assassinations, torture and the “satanic verses” among other things.

These deleted verses were OK for 1000 years, until Islam was challenged by Western morality.

19: 35 It befits not (the Majesty of) Allâh that He should beget a son [this refers to the slander of Christians against Allâh, by saying that 'Iesa (Jesus) is the son of Allâh]. Glorified (and Exalted be He above all that they associate with Him). When He decrees a thing, He only says to it, "Be!" and it is.

19: 88 And they say: "The Most Beneficent (Allâh) has begotten a son (or offspring or children) [as the Jews say: 'Uzair (Ezra) is the son of Allâh, and the Christians say that He has begotten a son ['Iesa (Christ)], and the pagan Arabs say that He has begotten daughters (angels, etc.)].“

THE HOLY BIBLE The New Testament refers to Jesus as the Son of

God over 75 times.

The Disciples: Matthew 16:16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

The Biographers: Mark 1:1 The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God;

The Angel Gabriel: Luke 1:35 And the angel answered and said unto her, … therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

Devils [Jinn]: Luke 4:41 And devils also came out of many, crying out, and saying, Thou art Christ the Son of God. And he rebuking them suffered them not to speak: for they knew that he was Christ.

John the Baptist [Prophet Yahya]: John 1:34 And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.

God’s Voice from Heaven: Matthew 3:17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased

The Qur’an9: 31 And the Jews say: 'Uzair (Ezra) is

Was Jesus the Son of God

This is a essential matter to Christianity:

John 3:16 is the most famous verse in the Bible:

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

John 3:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

John 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

John 3:19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

The Qur’an

4: 157 And because of their saying (in boast), "We killed Messiah 'Iesa (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary), the Messenger of Allâh," - but they killed him not, nor crucified him, but the resemblance of 'Iesa (Jesus) was put over another man (and they killed that man), and those who differ therein are full of doubts. They have no (certain) knowledge, they follow nothing but conjecture. For surely; they killed him not [i.e. 'Iesa (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary)]:

4: 158 But Allâh raised him ['Iesa (Jesus)] up (with his body and soul) unto Himself(and he is in the heavens). And Allâh is Ever AllPowerful, AllWise.

THE HOLY BIBLE

Matthew 28:5 And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified.

Mark 15:24 And when they had crucified him, they parted his garments, casting lots upon them, what every man should take.

Luke 23:33 And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left.

John 19:19 And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was, JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS.

John 19:20 This title then read many of the Jews: for the place where Jesus was crucified was nigh to the city: and it was written in Hebrew, and Greek, and Latin.

Acts 2:36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.

Was Jesus Crucified

This is the essence of the Gospel of Christianity:

1st Corinthians 15: 1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;

2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures;

4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the Scriptures:

Galatians 1: 8 [The Apostle Paul said:] But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.

9 As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

10 For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.

11 But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man.

12 For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.

They don’t want you to perish. They don’t want you to perish.

1st John 5: 10 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.

11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.

12 He that hath the Son hath life: and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

Mark 9: 47-48 And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire: Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

Isaiah 64: 6 But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.

Bukhari: Volume 4, Book 55, Number 549: Narrated Abdullah: Allah's Apostle, the true and truly inspired said, “…

So a man may do deeds characteristic of the people of the (Hell) Fire, so much so that there is only the distance of a cubit between him and it, and then what has been written (by the angel) surpasses, and so he starts doing deeds characteristic of the people of Paradise and enters Paradise.

What will his livelihood be? What will his age be?” The angel writes all this while the child is in the womb of its mother.’”

Bukhari V8, B76, N536: The Prophet said, "The first man to be called on the Day of Resurrection will be Adam who will be shown his offspring, and it will be said to them, 'This is your father, Adam.'

Then Allah will say (to Adam), 'Take out of your offspring, the people of Hell.'

Adam will say, 'O Lord, how many should I take out?' Allah will say, 'Take out ninety-nine out of every hundred." They (the Prophet's companions) said, "O Allah's Apostle! If ninety-nine

out of every one hundred of us are taken away, what will remain out of us?" He said, "My followers in comparison to the other nations are like a white

hair on a black ox."
