“We must seriously question the concepts underlying the current structure of organizations

and whether they are suitable to the management of accelerating societal and

environmental problems -

and, even beyond that, we must seriously consider whether they are the primary cause of

those problems.”

...above all, we are friends working together.

If the task gets before relationships, do not do the task...

and we believe that:

Page 10: Understanding ICO

...in the end of the 'isms...the graveyards of the World are full of them

and

...have you failed today?

and if not why not?

because to be creative and innovative means trying new ideas and taking risks and that can

mean failure too and also bring success

and we also believe:

Page 11: Understanding ICO

How does ICO organize?

Grassroots involvement by local and indigenous peoples working together in an

ICO Community

supported internationally in the field and through the Internet

by knowledge and resource areas called

ICO Centres

A Different Approach

Chaordic Organization

Page 13: Understanding ICO

ICO Board of DirectorsIs elected by the membership and responsible to the membership for the governance of the Foundation.

Members of the Foundation consist of active volunteer Team Members only. There is no cost, the contribution of time and passion to the Foundation is the membership fee.

A Team Member who cannot be active is allowed a year of leave of absence and maintains voting membership for that period. After that the member reverts to ICO Friends status, unless active again.

Page 14: Understanding ICO

ICO Board of DirectorsICO splits the operational management of the Foundation from overall strategic and fiduciary governance.

The elected President of the Foundation acts as Chair of the Board and is responsible to the Board for the administration of the Foundation.

Each of the four operational groups has a President who individually reports to the Chair.Over the next year the Board of Directors is being redesigned into a Board of Trustees.
