A business process is a set of coordinated tasks and activities, conducted by both people and equipment

Objective:o To provide TBT IP/TAP IP to the Trading Member availing NSEIL Co-Location

service.o To understand the basic process of IP Allocation and various steps involved in it

and which can be applied to various Industry verticals and roles involved in Allocation process .

Definition:o IP allocations is a process of providing IP address for TBT (Tick by Tick) and TAP

(Trading Access Point) services

IP Allocation Process:o Recognized members of NSE are called trading members who trade on behalf of

themselves and their clients.o Members require IP addresses to connect to various services of NSE like TAP and

TBTo TAP (Trading access point) is an application which is placed between Front-End and

End hence that all the communication between front-end and host-end will be through this TAP Application.

o TBT (Tick by Tick) is an application which is used on host end to receive tick by tick. o Tick by tick data refers to any market data which shows the price and volume of

every script.

XYZ has been at the forefront in spearheading technological changes in the securities market so, special thrust and focus on Information Technology to retain the primacy in the market.

We would take XYZ company’s business process to understand business process management

About the organization



We are trying to analyze the IP Allocation process of XYZ is one the major process of Infrastructure development and management. Different stages of IP Allocation process:

TAP/ TBT IP request:o Member requests new TAP or TBT IP to co-location service desk through

Email Payment Approval:

o Co-location service desk must verify that that the payment for the requested IP is done and cleared

o Requests payment confirmation from Membership team IP Allocation:

o Colocation Network team maintains an IP list for all the members according to their subnets

o Receipt of request for allotting the new TAP or TBT IP, Colocation Network team sends a new IP from this list to service desk which is then forwarded to member

Database Updation:o After IP is sent to member it is updated in the database at Co-location

service desk.o This database is an excel sheet containing information like member name,

member ID, Member status, Rack no., TAP / TBT IP, date of allotment and comments, if any.

Automation of TBT IP allocation: XYZ has developed an application on LOTUS notes; Colocation service desk

collects various details like member ID, Segment, rack no., from member and TBT IP details like IP, subnet mask, host IPs and port nos. from network team and enters them into the application.

Business Process and Roles



Roles: Member:

o They trade on behalf of themselves and their clients.o Members require IP addresses to connect to various services of XYZ.o For member Unit of work (UOW) is TAP / TBT IP Address.

Service Desk:o Service desk is SPOC for any issues provide 24x7x365 support to member.o UOW is Member’s application for IP address

Membership Team:o Membership department receives the payment from members and verifies

it.o co-ordinates with service desk in IP allocation process.o UOW is request for payment confirmation.

Colocation Network team:o Network team maintains and monitors the network of the exchange,

supports the member in case of any network issues.o UOW is request for IP address allocation

TBT Application:o workflow created on Lotus notes for simplification of Process.o It forwards the IP address and other details to the membership team o UOW is Member details

Role Activity Diagrams (RADs) are a useful way of describing processes. They are valuable in documenting processes as they are now, and as they might be in the future.

Role Activity Diagrams relies upon an ability to scope a study, to decide on the level of interest and to determine the boundaries of each role .

Member:o Triggers IP allocation process by applying for new TAP/TBT IP address.o Interaction with Service Desk for IP Allocation via Email.

Service Desk:o Checks the Application for TAP/TBT IP address.o Interaction with Membership Team for Payment confirmation via Email.o Interaction with member for allotting the requested IP address .o Interaction with Network team for providing the IP address .o Interaction with TBT Application for filling up details.

Membership Team:o Checks for the payment details for requested IP address.o Interaction with service desk for notification of payment status of member

via email.

Colocation Network team:o Interaction with Service Desk for providing the IP address.o Allocation of IP address from the IP list.

TBT Application:o Interaction with Service desk for accepting the details like Member ID etc.o Interaction with Membership team for payment confirmation.o Interaction with Service desk for notification of payment status of member.

Role Interactions and Actions



Control Flow logic:o Member sends the request for IP addresso Person or System on the service desk identifies whether the request is for

TAP IP or for TBT IP.

For TAP IP:o Service desk sends request to membership teamo Membership team verifies details about payment with finance team and if

everything is ok then it will move towards next step else the team will notify and Stop the process.

o Membership team sends details to network teamo Network team finds appropriate IP accordingly location of member .o Network team updates information about IP and sends to the member.

For TBT IP:o Service desk asks for further required details about TBT IPo Service desk sends request and details to Network teamo Network team analyses details of request and finds appropriate IP Addresso Network team sends it to Lotus Notes TBT Application .o Application sends details to member teamo Member team verifies payment information with finance team

Business Process logics



Information flow Logic:o Type of IP is an input to the Service Desk. o For any kind of IP Address payment details is an input to membership

team.o Details of IP are input to the network team for any kind of IP Addresseso Details of IP are input to the Lotus Notes TBT Application for any TBT

IP Addresseso Generated IP act as an input to the member.

Transaction Flow Logic:o Service desk need confirmation of payment according to the type and

total no of IP Addresses.o Service desk generates report file of total requests of IP Addresses of

different types per month and sends it to headquarter for further analysis.

o Member Team verifies details of payment before giving all the information of requested IP Addresses to the member.

representation of an algorithm or stepwise process, showing the steps as boxes of various kinds, and their order by connecting these with arrows.

The IP allocation Process comes into action when member requires a connection to XYZ trading engine hence proper allocation is necessary.

Also the type of IP requested by the member depend upon the services that member wants to avail.

Every type of IP viz. TAP /TBT has a different price and requires different details for processing IP request.

Though there is automated process for TBT IP Allocation the application is not covering entire IP allocation process hence it is still not efficient.
