I am currently attending “Ion Mincu” University of Architecture and Urbanism (UAUIM).Presently I am in my fifth year of study.

I plan to continue my studies through the graduate programe at the UAUIM, graduating in 2014 with a Master of Architecture degree.

I hope to future my education outside the realm of academia through an internship in the profesional field of Architecture.

I firmly believe that an internship will help me grow as an architect, a student and as a person.

I am an ambitios and hardworking person. I am also a sociable person, a teamworkerand I like always being involved and always discovering new things. My hobbies are architectural visualization and graphic design.

The studied area is situated in the central protected tissue of the Bucharest. The protected objects are the buildings of the old Jewish neighborhood. The area is a very deconstructed one, where the urban agglomeration proper to the center of the city is confronting the history of this neighborhood. The main function of the area is housing. The free spaces remained after the 80’s demolations present a high economical potential and the possibility of creating a cultural center, ending with the revitalization of the Jewish community from the area. The programs that I proposed for the area are: offices, museum, art gallery, collective housing, urban square.

I decided to dedicate the entire area to people, so I transformed all the streets into pedestrian ones. I introduced the old tissue streets as a memory of a historic element at the pavement level. The entire area is developing around the church, resulting a new unitary urban square with multiple functions that create an active zone for a large period of time .

03The purpose of the museum and the art gallery together with the adjacent theater is to “populate“ a forgoten historical area in the center of Bucharest and transform it into a nice ambiental urban place, mixing it with comercial spaces and houses at the ground level.

The museum volume is designed as a compact one with three risen corners representing the acceses. The volume has a large luminator at the top level which provides a zenital light to the four floors. Inside can be found photographic exhibitions, a library, conference rooms,

offices and a snack bar.

thE MUsEUM As AN IDENtIty OF PLACE The museum would finally establish a Jewish presence embedded culturally and socially in Bucharest.

Inside the museum there is a photographic exhibition ment to recognize the benefits brought by the jewish at the beggining of the XIXth century to Bucharest’s urban community and to consolidate an image of the old neighborhood, a monography of

their daily life.

The Tower is proposed on a very high-developed urban area in the north side of Bucharest. The area is gathering a large number of office buildings. On a large urban scale analysis there can be seen the office buildings movement to this area of

Bucharest.

The Tower is ment to be an iconic building, but also a guiding element in the city through it’s shape and orientation creating spatial relations on a larger scale with the other high-rise buildings

in the city .

The main acces is under the middle part of the building, which I designed as a public space. The main pedestrian traffic comes from the south part of the area (the red circle-above). This part collects pedestrians from the Verdi Park, the public transport station and the opposite housing area.

The secondary acceses are: one on the top corner of the triangle, another two on the East facade and the last one

on the South facade. The underground acces is on the right-down area of the

triangled site.

The tower (no.1) has G+22 floors and it is connected with an adjacent building (no.2) with G+4 floors through two stories and an open terrace. The entire building has three underground levels for parkings, storages and technical areas.I proposed commercial spaces, offices, a top floor restaurant and a sky garden for the tower. The small volume has a five level atrium which interactively connects the office area with the conference area. It is mainly designed for conferences, with special rooms that can be accesed from both buildings.

// BUS STATIONThe project was ment to organize the Baneasa Terminal Bus Station and to provide a protected area for the people who are wainting in the station. The sollution had to be done using contemporary complex structures.

So far, the site has been providing just a turning place for the buses. The pedestrians and the vegetation have been forgoten in this huge parking place, surrounded by comercial spaces. On the site we can find a container where the tickets shop and an office are running. The main problems were the lack of benches, the overheating, the sun and the rain protection.

The sollution that I proposed was to keep the few green spaces, to organize them in an efficient way, to cover the area with a continuous metalic mesh structure and an attached glass structure underneath it. In the supporting right side cilinder we can find the tickets shop, an office and a bath. On the green left island i proposed a fountain to chill the air and the benches around it.

organic columns

The problems of the triangled metalic structure were the large aperture that had to be covered and the weight efforts handled in the middle of the structure. In order to resolve these issues I came with an idea of a special metalic column that had to match the organic roof.

Page 24: Undergraduate Arch. Portfolio - George Boholteanu

The site is situated adjacent Grivita’s train depot, where I had to propose collective housing for the depot workers.

We can find both two and three rooms apartments. at the upper levels. At the ground level there are public functions (exhibitions, caffe).

I used metalic structures at the ground level to compensate the large aperture that had to be covered.

The site is mainly surrounded by single floor houses, and collective housing. I proposed a public space oriented to Grivita boulevard.

George BOHOLTEANU Portfolio 12

Page 26: Undergraduate Arch. Portfolio - George Boholteanu

The main problem was the triangle shape of the site, and the sharp angle facing the main boulevard. In that way I proposed a main taller volume marking the intersection with Grivita’s boulevard and another two smaller volumes connected only from 1st to 4th floor.
