Criteria changed to 1.13 seconds….
However they defined situations when standing must be used….
Patients with reflux in the RT position with reflux time of 0.5-1.13 seconds
Segmental reflux associated with incompetent perforating veins
In the GSV in segments traveling outside of the fascia plane (“were found to
have a significant overestimation of reflux duration”)
How many GSVs have segments outside of the fascial plane…. 30% Joe
Zygmunt Venous Ultrasound 2013
• Lateral accessory small saphenous vein– Runs in its own fascial compartment
lateral and parallel to the SSV.
• Incompetent perforators can be the source of varicosities, skin changes and ulceration.
• A pathological perforator is considered to be above 0.35 cm and associated with skin changes
