Creative Arts & Crafts Programme at The Ulster Folk & Transport Museum

2017 – 2018

The preservation and promotion of craft has always been important at the Ulster Folk & Transport Museum. Making something can have a positive impact on people’s lives. It can create space to relax and socialise, allow for the learning of new skills and the sharing of ideas. Understanding how something is made, the history of the craft and if the materials are ethically sourced has become important to both consumers and makers.

We offer a large and varied range of workshops so why not try something new. The Woodwork classes proved particularly popular last year so we have scheduled extra classes to meet the demand. We have included some basic sewing classes for those of you wanting to learn more about pattern laying and using a sewing machine.

This year we have added some intermediate level classes in Tiffany Glass and Blacksmithing to advance the skills of people who have previously been on a class. Our Basket maker has included some beginner level workshops to encourage people to ‘have a go’ at basket-making. The series of Crafternoon Teas will continue along with a special brunch with the Basket maker all in January.

So, why not take time out this year to learn a new skill or develop an existing one. We look forward to meeting you at one of our classes.

You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.Maya Angelou
