Term 4Week 2 Monday 17th Oct, 2016. ULMARRA SOCCER TEAM FOURTH IN THE STATE Congratulations to our Soccer team who came fourth at the State Championships. They played very well and it came down to dot shots and golden goal. Everyone had a great time and there behaviour and sportsmanship was exemplary. Congratulations! SHANNON CREEK DAM AND RECYCLING CENTRE EXCURSION Our first stop was the tip. We were split into two groups: 3 to 6 and K to 2. We went on a tour first. We went to the Green waste which had a tunnel 24 metres long of compost and it stayed in there for 14 days. It then sat outside for a few more weeks before it was ready. When it was nearly ready it goes into the shredder and it shreds sticks and plastic. Then we went to a shed with recycled rubbish and they made squares of cans and glass together and paper and cardboard together. Then I saw a soccer ball and a mountain of rubbish at the landfill section. Then we swapped groups we went in a can thing with red bins, green bins and yellow bins to get an idea what goes in each. We also looked at how to conserve the environment. We then went to Shannon Creek Dam. It was at 8.3 metres high, the highest was 7.8 meters on the overflow. Then we walked across the bridge and went back down again. We saw a remote control lawn mower and how the pumps work. Then we went back to school. We all enjoyed it. By Jasper SPECIAL INTEREST GROUP A group of interested children will be walking to Rathgar Lodge on Monday 24th October.
