DEAR STUDENT,Welcome to the 2015 Internships and Volunteering Fair organised the UCD Career Development Centre.

The importance of undertaking voluntary work and internships has never been greater. Graduate employers are primarily interested in recruiting students who have “made a difference”, who are active in their own career and personal development. In effect this means that students actively involved in activities such as clubs, societies and sports, students who volunteer and those who undertake internships in their chosen career area are best placed to succeed in the job market.

The Internships & Volunteering Fair presents students with an ideal opportunity to access a range of personal and career development activities, to network with graduate recruiters and to develop key transferable skills sought by them. After the Fair remember to make use of the Career Development Centre which is situated in the James Joyce Library Building and visit our website at www.ucd.ie/careers to access our on-line services. Whatever it is you intend doing when you complete your studies at UCD, we want to help you develop and implement your career action plan. Members of staff at the Career Development Centre wish you well and look forward to meeting you at the Fair and at our Centre.

Best wishes,Dr David FosterDirector, Career Development and Skills

THE UMBRELLA FOUNDATIONThe Umbrella Foundation is a non-profit NGO and registered charity in Ireland, working to alleviate the impact of trafficking, poverty and war on children and their families in Nepal. Established in 2005 in response to the growing number of illegal ‘orphanages’ neglecting children’s most basic rights – food, education, safe shelter, healthcare and love – we are a family-first, children’s charity which rescues vulnerable children and reintegrates them with their families and rural communities. When this is not possible, we support them in our homes until such a time as they can stand on their own two feet. As a responsible and ethical organisation, we work alongside the Child Welfare Board to prevent further trafficking and corrupt children’s homes from operating. The Umbrella Foundation is firmly against ‘voluntourism’, the industry of fabricating opportunities to meet increasing demands of Western volunteers.
