SEMINAR MEETINGSCollege learning encompasses more than just the knowledge you acquire from your academic course. Co-curricular learning is a component of your college experience. You will meet in a weekly seminar to learn about university research, student life, and college-level study skills. (Meeting times can be found at summer.uci.edu/programs/highschool).

You will become a member of a peer group in which active classroom participation is a necessary component to positive engagement and success. You will work in both small and large groups, with faculty, staff, and student mentors, and interact with each other to develop connections that will enhance your experience both inside and outside of the classroom. The INSIDE UCI Series, collegiate life workshops, and social activities are designed to give you an understanding of the opportunities, resources, and experiences you will encounter as a college student, and introduce you to other Summer Scholars.

The collegiate life workshops are designed to give you an overview of the opportunities and experiences you will encounter as a college student. Highlights from past summers include: College Application Workshop with the UCI Office of Admissions, Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program Panel, Self-Care with the UCI Health Education Center, and student groups such as Engineering Student Council, Global Brigades, Jodaiko Drumming Ensemble, MCIA Dance Team, KUCI radio, and Anteater TV.

The INSIDE UCI Series is a key part of UCI Summer Session. Presentations by prominent UCI research faculty will give you a “front row seat” to their diverse academic paths and new research developments at UCI. Research is a valuable piece of an undergraduate education because it helps students develop important skills and shows them ways to overcome complicated challenges. You will have the unique opportunity to ask our faculty about their academic journeys, how they became interested in research, and why they are passionate about their work.
