whERE iB StUdENtS flOURiShRanked among the top 40 universities globally, UBC is a popular destination for International Baccalaureate diploma graduates. In fact, the University receives more IB transcripts than nearly any other post-secondary institution in the world.

UBC’s Vancouver and Okanagan campuses offer innovative curricula taught by leading faculty who use advanced teaching methods and modern technology to challenge and inspire top students like you. As an IB student, you have grown accustomed to learning beyond the classroom, including your extended essay and creativity, action and service (CAS) requirements. UBC offers opportunities to build on your IB experiences with interdisciplinary programs, as well as volunteer and study-aborad options available through the Go Global program.

BE PARt Of A diVERSE COMMUNity With her IB experience giving her a leg up academically and her residence community supporting her, Virginia has found time to connect with others on campus through her involvement with UBC REC, UBC Concert Winds, the UBC Emergency Medical Aid Team, UBC Surf Club and the Student Ambassador Program. After graduation, Virginia hopes to experience someplace new by travelling abroad to work or continuing her studies in graduate school.

PUSh thE BOUNdARiES Of RESEARChA recipient of the UBC Undergraduate Research Award, James conducted his own research project exploring the policy impacts of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear accident on the United States, Germany, and Japan. With a solid foundation of knowledge and skills, and a strong network of colleagues, James finished his undergraduate degree in three years and is now pursuing a Law degree at UBC.

PURSUE yOUR PASSiONSCecilia arrived at UBC with a passion for ecology and conservation—interests that UBC helped her develop through hands-on classes, fieldwork, research, and summer learning opportunities in China and Iceland. After graduation, Cecilia landed a job as a junior wildlife biologist and project manager for an environmental consultancy, where she spends her time monitoring wildlife in British Columbia and Alberta.

“UBC fosters culture and community throughout the campus and the city, which creates a unique and exciting place to learn and experience new things.”

“My research demanded an inquisitive mind and, in many ways, was an extension of my iB extended essay.”

“UBC is an absolutely awesome school that recognizes the level you are at when you finish the iB program and prepares you for any career.”

whERE yOUR iB EdUCAtiON StANdS OUtUBC recognizes the IB program’s academic rigour and values its emphasis on areas beyond academic achievement. The Personal Profile section of your UBC application is your chance to share your experiences in the IB program and beyond: tell us what you are most proud of, what is most important to you, and what you have learned inside and outside the classroom.

fiRSt-yEAR CREdit fOR iB COURSESUBC considers all higher-level and some standard-level IB courses for first-year credit. The table below shows the credits granted on each campus for the most popular IB courses, but your other IB classes may be eligible for credit too. For all other courses, credit is determined by your admitting faculty. If you are eligible to receive an exemption, please consult your departmental advisor at UBC before registering for second-year courses. You can also choose to refuse the first-year credit and take the course.
