Overview
UAS Layout has 7 crosses and 1 main road abuJng Bhoopasandra main road in the north and RMS layout in the south.
The layout is roughly triangular & has 4 triangular open spaces
• Main play area • Triangle park • Temple park • Reading room playground
All the open spaces and small parks are fenced with lockable turns@les
Garbage menace has been temporarily thwarted by construc@on of a reading room near it.
Couple of broad roads like 4th cross & 7th cross aBract bikers doing wheelie and speeding with noisy bikes threatening to hurt the kids.
Reading room playground Constructed recently. play area used by nearby school. Also has a HOPCOMS. Chain link fence. Triangle park for laughter club members, High fenced & kept locked exclusively for them
Main play area Sandy play area, Fenced with turns@le. Has dust bin but can see boBles & trash all over
Temple park Hosts a temple in the middle Fenced with trees

Open space problems
The fences are uninvi@ng and hard rusty turns@les don’t allow for disabled or the kids to get in.
The fences supposed to shield an@ social elements actually aBract them because of the cover they offer.
Open spaces are constantly being threatened by poli@cians promising to construct something or the other as sops.
Very liBle usage of the park while other parks in the neighborhood are filled to the brim.
There are benches but very few sit in them as they are not invi@ng and they don’t provide a view to anything
What it can be? The parks need to be open without fences preferably. The fences take up space and is like going into a jail. They are not friendly to the community and only friendly to an@ social elements.
The 4 places need to be seen to be interconnected and not 4 separate things that needs going into.
Unnecessary walking path inside the temple park and main park can be used for something else and the walking path made along the street outside
Plants are sporadic and not thoughZully planted.
The place should be safe & friendly to kids, elderly & disabled not just to athle@c young men
It needs to be a place the adults in community can gather or come to do things.
Bonus project – Friendly streets With the streets in the whole area being 30 ] there is no space to put walkable sidewalks. There is also parking of cars.
There are drain covers which are supposed to be sidewalks but is too narrow to be walkable. Hence the people end up walking on the streets anyway.
Can the drain covers be done away with repurposed for something & the streets be made mul@use where vehicles share it with people & bicycles?
What kid of road signage and design will make the place safe for residents young & old?
Can the streets be retooled to be harvest rainwater in situ?
What kind of community policing or neighbourhood watch schemes will make the layout safe instead of having to rely on fences
Can the layout be made public transport friendly by connec@ng it both physically & informa@onally to NTI bus stop adjoining the layout on Bhoopasandra main road?
One more bonus project J
Walkability of Sanjaynagar main road • Footpaths on sanjaynagar main road are actually drain covers that are ill equipped to take the volume of pedestrian traffic. It is missing in places and obstructed by u@li@es in some.
• The main road is also mixed use with lively commercial ac@vity & takes pubic transport.
• Widening the footpath to accommodate the peak fooZalls is a desired outcome
• This needs be done by ra@onalising parking space and lanes widths appropriately
• It’s a lively main street with lot of mom & pop stores serving all kinds of needs. Chain stores with high traffic needs are being opened. Some guidelines and best prac@ces on regula@ng these will be useful.
