Alabama SEC Players of the WeekThe Crimson Tide has had two players earn SEC weekly accolades thus far this season. Alabama junior goalkeeper Kara Gudmens posted back-to-back shutouts to lead Alabama to a perfect 2-0 weekend to earn SEC Defensive Player of the Week honors on Sept. 15. Sophomore forward Victoria Frederick was named the SEC Of-fensive Player of the Week on Sept. 2. The forward earned the honor on the strength of six points on two goals and two assists in the fi rst two matches of the season. The last time two members of the Tide nabbed the honor in the same season was in 2004 when Kylie Boyd and Gilian Kilburn garnered the accolades.

Home Sweet Home Alabama has started off its 2008 home slate in impressive fashion as it had not al-lowed an opponent to score in its fi rst six home matches. The Crimson Tide opened its home slate with a 3-0 shutout victory over Jacksonville State on Aug. 31. Alabama goalkeepers Kara Gudmens and Karen Lansden combined to blank the Gamecocks. On Sept. 12, Gudmens held in-state rival Samford scoreless with her fi rst shutout of 2008. Gudmens followed that up by blanking Wright State in double overtime on Sept. 14. UA then swept another weekend with shutouts over UTC (5-0) and Mis-sissippi Valley State (1-0). Lansden earned her fi rst shutout on the year against the Devilett es on Sept. 21. The last shutout came on Friday against MSU by the score of 1-0. Alabama had its streak snapped 25 seconds into the Ole Miss game. Alabama did not allow a goal for 555 minutes at home. The Crimson Tide has out-scored the opposition 13-2 in Tuscaloosa. The six straight shutouts at home is an all-time best. In 1988 Alabama began its campaign with four straight shutout wins.

Alabama Picked Fourth in the WestThe Alabama Crimson Tide has been picked to fi nish fourth in the SEC Western Division as announced by the SEC preseason coaches poll. In the West, LSU was fi rst with 62 total points (seven fi rst-place votes) compared to Auburn’s 59 points (fi ve fi rst-place votes). LSU returns nine starters from last year’s squad that won the SEC Western Division with a 5-2-4 ledger in league play. Ole Miss also returns nine start-ers from 2007, including First Team All-SEC selection Danielle Johnson. The Crimson Tide fi nished with a 2-8-1 SEC mark, earning wins over Kentucky and Arkansas.

Returning HonoreesHead coach Todd Bramble inherits a relatively young team that has some SEC award winners among them. Sophomore forward Victoria Frederick returns after leading the team in points and in goals. For her eff ort the Huntsville, Ala. native was named to the SEC All-Freshmen Team. In goal, Justine Bernier also garnered SEC freshmen honors after breaking the school record in saves with 145. Bernier tallied 16 saves to break the Alabama Soccer Complex record against Tennessee on Oct. 25. Senior Kailey Corken excelled not just on the fi eld but off it as she was named to the ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-American Team.

Bernier Helps Canada to U-20 World CupAlabama sophomore goalkeeper Justine Bernier (Oakville, Ontario) and team Canada sailed through the CONCACAF women’s under-20 championship to earn the title by the way of a 1-0 decision over rival USA in Mexico. The Alabama single season record holder in saves has been in the team Canada pool at the U-16, U-17, and U-18 levels. Team Canada secured a trip to Chile this November for the U-20 World Cup.

Next Time OutAlabama will conclude its weekend against LSU on Sunday, Oct. 12 at 1:00 p.m. at the LSU Soccer Complex. The Crimson Tide will then return home for two matches. Alabama will face South Carolina on Friday, Oct. 17 at 7:00 p.m. and then take on Florida at 1:00 p.m. on Oct. 19.

TODD BRAMBLE Head Coach Head Coach First Year First Year Mercer, 1995 Mercer, 1995 87-53-20 87-53-20

Todd Bramble begins his fi rst season as head coach of the University of Alabama women's soccer program in the fall of 2008. Bramble took over the Crimson Tide after a successful seven-year stint as head coach at Clemson University.

During Bramble's tenure at the helm of the program, he took the Lady Tigers to the NCAA Tournament every season reaching the NCAA Elite Eight once and the NCAA Sweet 16 twice. In addition, his teams have fi nished in the top 25 nationally fi ve times and have placed in the top three in the Atlantic Coast Conference three times. Bramble had an 80-51-17 overall record and did not have a losing season at Clemson.

In 2007, Bramble led Clemson to the NCAA Tournament for the seventh straight year advancing to the second round before falling to 15th-ranked Tennessee, 1-0. The Tigers posted a 10-6-5 record with victories over 23rd-ranked Long Beach State and seventh-ranked South Carolina. Bramble's Tigers played nine ranked teams in 2007 and posted an impressive 8-2-1 home record. Three Tigers earned All-ACC honors and two players were recognized as ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District.

Bramble has 18 career wins over top 25 teams including two top-fi ve wins on the road in 2004 when the Lady Tigers won at fourth-ranked Texas and fi fth-ranked Texas A&M. It marked the fi rst time in 20 years, since the men's soccer team did it in 1984, that a Clemson program defeated top-fi ve teams in consecutive road games.

Bramble's teams have had an equally impressive record in the classroom as they have had on the soccer fi eld. The Lady Tigers have posted a 3.0 or bett er cumulative team grade point average all 13 semesters that he has led the team and have recorded a 3.25 or bett er team GPA for the last seven semesters. In addition, each of the program's seven NSCAA Academic All-American selections played under Bramble.

Bramble served as the top assistant under Clemson head men's soccer coach Trevor Adair from 1995-99. The Tigers had three top-12 seasons and reached the NCAA Tournament Quarterfi nals twice and the Sweet 16 three times in those fi ve seasons. The 1998 team fi nished with a 22-2 overall record and a number-one fi nal regular season national ranking and won the ACC Championship that season.

Prior to being an assistant men's coach at Clemson, Bramble also served under Adair as an assistant at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, from 1991-94. The 1994 Brown team advanced to the NCAA Quarterfi nals.

Prior to joining Clemson as the head women's coach, Bramble was the head coach of the men's soccer program at Butler University in Indianapolis for the 2000 season.

Bramble has also coached at the international level, where he was an assistant coach for the United States under-17 national team that competed in the World Champion-ships in 1999.

Bramble received a degree in business management from Mercer University in Ma-con, Ga., in 1995. He was an all-conference goalkeeper at Mercer before spending one year in the National Professional Soccer League with the Memphis Rogues (1989-90).
