1. Introduction

This document introduces the detailed steps for setting up a PPP connection in the WCDMA

network.

2. Install USB driver

For the first time to get the PC connected to the module via USB cable, please install the USB

driver first. Quectel provides the USB Driver on Windows Operating System (OS).

After installing the USB driver, there will be two virtual COM ports appeared in the Device

Manager as below: the USB Application Port (COMx) and the Modem Port (COMx). The USB

Modem Port is recommended to do the dial-up connection and the USB Application Port is used

to send AT commands.

3. Setup PPP connection

Quectel provides the tool named “PPP Dialup Setting” to help the customer install the modem and

setup PPP connection before dialup to the internet. Please refer to the following descriptions for

the operation guide.

3.1. Add new operator to the list

Uncompress the installation package, enter into PPPDialUp_Setting directory, you will see the

following documents:

Open DialUpSetting.ini file, refer to the following instructions to add the local operators. If the

operator information has been included, ignore this section.

3.2. Install Modem driver and setup PPP connection

You can manage the dial-up setting on the setting window, including the following operations:

Start DialupSetting.exe

Select network operator and connected port

Define connection name

Click to install the Modem and setup the connection.

Note: Connected Port selection should be consistent with the USB Modem Port.

Note: When identification of new hardware or warning message appears during the installation,

please select to continue the installation.

After successful installation, there will be Quectel WCDMA Modem under Modems entries

in Device Manager. And the shortcut icon of WCDMA connection will appear in the network

connection.

4. Make a PPP connection

Now you can establish a connection to WCDMA networks anytime when you need. Double-click

the WCDMA Connection, as shown in the following figure, click to start the

PPP dial-up connection.

You can also set properties before connecting, so you can see the process of dial-up connection:
