COMPLEX SENTENCES

A complex sentence has an independent clause joined by one or more dependent clauses.

Example: We sang happy birthday then ate cake.

COMPOUND SENTENCES

A compound sentence contains two independent clauses joined by a coordinator.

Example: We walked to school and we walked home.

COMPOUND COMPLEX SENTENCES

A sentence having two or more coordinate independent clauses and one or more dependent.

Example: The titanic sank in the middle of the ocean although it was sinking the captain stayed aboard.

SIMPLE SENTENCES

A simple sentence, also called an independent clause, contains a subject and a verb, and it expresses a complete thought.

Example: The cow jumped over the moon.

IMPERATIVE SENTENCES

A type of sentence that gives advice or instructions or that expresses a request or command.

Example: Go get in line up.

DECLARATIVE SENTENCES

A sentence in the form of a statement.

Example: The door is open.

INTEROGATIVE SENTENCE

A type of sentence that asks a question.

Example: Can I borrow a pencil?

EXCLAMATORY SENTENCES

A type of sentence that expresses strong feelings marked by a exclamation point.
