COMPLEX SENTENCES

A complex sentence has an independent clause joined by one or more dependent clauses.

Example: We sang happy birthday then ate cake.

COMPOUND SENTENCES

A compound sentence contains two independent clauses joined by a coordinator.

Example: We walked to school and we walked home.

COMPOUND COMPLEX SENTENCES

A sentence having two or more coordinate independent clauses and one or more dependent.

Example: The titanic sank in the middle of the ocean although it was sinking the captain stayed aboard.
