What do scientific photographers do?

• A scientific photographer will recored experiments or take images that are of use to the scientific community. They will use various specialist photo imaging techniques such as, infrared, time-lapse, thermal imaging, ultraviolet and micrography- which is a camera attached to a microscope. Scientific groups may hire specialist photographers to record their research, or members of the groups may be a specialist photographer in their own right. But primarily, a scientific photographer’s use it to record and document.

• We can see scientific photography in forensic cases all the way to medical studies and nature shots.

Fashion Photography

• Fashion photographers don't only take photographs of clothes, but they do so with and underling themes they need to interpret into the image, as well as other ideas. The image above is a good example of a themed photo, in this case it is winter wear. Fashion photographers can complete a photoshoot for a complete clothing range or brand. Or they could work freelance for a designer brand. A good fashion photographer will make way for new innovations and originality. It is also a good idea for the photographer to stick to trends but be artistic with them and get creative. Some photographers use quite a few lights, ranging up to ten or more sometimes, all to convey a certain mood for the image. However the clothes on a dramatic photoshoot are there to convey a certain lifestyle.

• Time-lapse photography is where the frequency of the frame rate is dramatically slowed down, for example a standard movie is recorded at 30 frames per second (fps). 30 fps is the standard that the eye picks up images and can see the frames as a fluid image. If there were less fps, the human eye will ,more consistently, see small stutters or jumps between the frames, making the video a lot more rickety rather than smooth.

• However with time lapse photography, the smoothness of the fps doesn't really matter here, because the camera used for these types of images are set to take a certain amount of frames dramatically lower than an average movie. Once the photographer has got what they wanted, they’re able to edit the film in a software program, and go trough the frames and compile them into images that look something like the two that were show on the previous slide.

• Timelapse photographers may be freelance and create theses images for themselves to uses ad advertisements for their companies. Or the overall technique could be used to add a cinematic event in a film or video.

Macro Photography• Macro photography, or macrography,

is about capturing things in immaculate, extreme and absolute detail. As well as making very tiny things, like insects, larger than life size. It’s also about the right lenses and the best lenses to use so you can get the perfect picture.

• Many techniques can be applied in macrography such as, depth of field and apertures. Apertures are there to control how much light enters the camera, much like what pupils do for your eyes, whereas depth of field is about blurring out the background or foreground. If you want an easy way to experience depth of field put your hand up infront of your face and look at it; you will notice the background is all blurred and your hand is in focus.

Fashion Photography VS Time-lapse Photography Firstly, fashion photography is usually done in the spirit of marketing for it is displaying products from design-ers on a model. However, in some cases, photo-shoots are created to convey a specific type of mood, atmos-phere, or an underlying theme. But still, its main purpose is to display products, for companies such as: Vogue, Next, and any other fashion based shop you can think of. On the technical side of things however, this type of photography can take up to hours to achieve and get a great result. It is has a far more technical setup than Time-lapse photography because of all the lighting and/ or staging required to capture what the photographer desires.Most of the success of the photo-shoot requites the models to cooperate fully, sometimes this can be a hin-drance if they’re not, creating problems for the photographer- especially if the shoots are long, very long, and they grow tired or frustrated. As a result this has an impact on the photographers vision, because the model isn't living up to the photographers demands so they can do their job successfully.

On the other hand, time-lapse photography is more of a job for freelance photographers, but It could be done by a company that want their own time-lapse photography. For a film it could certainly be used, although that more to do with using a recording camera to create a constant moving effect. However it still seems more worth it to contract somebody out. In terms of technicality, the photographer will have to setup in a position and leave their camera sitting there to capture their vision. For example, they could setup up on a ridge overlooking a mountainous region be-cause there is a lot of clear sky space, therefore they can capturing the moon/ suns travel path as it goes across the sky throughout the day or night. However this makes time-lapse a somewhat difficult process, be-cause you have to leave the camera to do all the work in a sense, the photographer needs to make sure the camera is set up perfectly so the quality is that of which they desire to achieve. But time-lapse photography is a great way of capturing surreal imagery, as you may have seen on a previous slide. That is one of the bonuses to this type of photography. In some way its more easier to have more free-dom with what you want to take pictures of, compared to fashion photography.
