Local Infection An infection
involving bacteria that invade the body at a specific point and remain there, multiplying, until eliminated
Focal Infection Process in which
microorganisms located at a certain site or focus in the body are disseminated throughout the body to set up secondary sites or foci, of infection in other tissues
Mixed Infection Infection by more
than one variety of pathogenic microorganisms
Primary Infection The original
outbreak of an illness against which the body has had no opportunity to build antibodies; the originating infection
Secondary Infection Occurs when a
different infection, known as the primary infection , makes a person more susceptible to disease
