Introduction

• Founded in 15th century, Golf is a club & ball game which is played in grass, sand or ice courses

• Those courses can be categorized as follows;Link coursesParkland coursesHeath land coursesSand courses

Link Courses

• Located in coastal areas

• Contains thin strip of sand dunes, grass, few water hazards

and a few trees.

• Grass tends to have short blades with long roots making the

play very difficult

• Mostly found in Scotland or Ireland, including St Andrews,

Turnberry, Portmarnock and Ballybunion.

Parkland Courses

• Most common type of golf courses around the world

• Contain lush, well-kept greens, many mature trees, thick

rough & bunkers

• Typically situated towards the inland

• Mostly found in England, USA, Malaysia

Heath land Courses

• Large open courses with sandy soil and rich vegetation

• Less manicured inland courses featuring gentle and rolling

fairways winding through bushes and shrubs

• Trees have been added later to these courses to provide

shelter from the wind or sun.

• Considered among some of the oldest courses Sunningdale,

Liphook & Walton Heath

Sand Courses

• Mostly found in Australia

• Sand courses makes the long games harder and the short

games easier

• Putting area usually consist of ‘browns’

• ‘Browns’ are a mixture of sand & oil blended and rolled

together

• ‘Browns’ are slower but truer
