The Tyger Valley Shopping Centre will beenlarged by more than a third its currentsize.This news comes from the Cape Town Spa-

tial Development Framework, whichhighlights the plans to expand this cosmopo-litan retail hub after such plans were appro-ved.“An application has been received to ex-

pand the centre by adding 35 000 m² of grossleasable retail area (GLA) to the existing89 000 m² of retail space in the shopping cen-tre,” said chairperson of the Spatial Plan-ning, Environment and Land Use Manage-ment Committee, Christo Kannenberg in astatement.“The proposal is compliant with the zo-

ning parameters of the City of Cape Townand was approved at a meeting of (the reve-lant spatial planning entity) on 12 Februa-ry,” he said.

He added that this would bring nearly4 000 new parking bays.“A total of 3 858 newparking bays are to be provided to complywith the 6 bays per 100 m² gross leasable re-tail area, as required by the newCity of CapeTown zoning scheme.”Kannenberg also noted that the expansion

would be done on the eastern side of the cen-tre.“The revised site development plan alsoshifts the development bulk to the easternside of the site, thereby reducing visual im-pacts on the western edge of the property,

closest to the valley.”He said plans to build a hotel were also

scrapped.“This follows on a public participation

process inmid-2012, that saw the applicationdownscaled to exclude all non-retail compo-nents, including an 18 storey hotel,” he said.Leonore van derWalt, DAWard 2 council-

“As a shopper at the centre, I for one am veryhappy about the expansion,” she said.

“However, when the centre was revampedin 2011, all shoppers were very unhappyabout the terrible inconvenience – I just ho-pe this will not happen ever again.”

Kannenberg said the expansion was partof the city’s plans to encourage entrepre-neurship.

Brendan van der Merwe, Ward 3 Council-lor, agreed and said he was very excitedabout the proposed plans.

“A development such as this will bring va-rious opportunities for job creation,” hesaid, emphasising that any growth and sti-mulation to the shopping centre would meangrowth in the entire node.

The plans come on the back of the TygerValley node being named a mixed-use nodeof metropolitan significance of high order,with the centre at the heart of it all, or asVan der Merwe put it, the “nucleus of the no-de”.

The market research done in the processhighlighted that the shopping centre was“the main driver and catalyst for develop-ment within this part of Cape Town” andthat the office node within Bellville and Ty-ger Valley was the second largest in CapeTown, with an annual growth rate of 4%.

The research also pointed out that the no-deprovidedwork toat least 35 000people andwas among the top in the city and country.

It is common knowledge that bad languagewill land you in hot water - and out of pocket- the moment you set foot in this popular es-tablishment.

Not that this has stopped some patronsfrom having the occasional four-letter wordslip out.

Bizarre as it may seem, it has served asan incentive for locals to “indulge”, as longas the notes keep piling into the infamous“swear jar” behind the counter.

All for a good cause as they knowingly col-lect funds throughout the year, for the Ty-gerberg Hospice in Bellville.

“My husband will greet an old patron witha hearty back-slap and an unsavoury slip ofthe tongue, as he tosses his redemptive R50orR100bill into the jar. This is ussually follo-wed with a jovial return-greeting anotherapologetic “#*$#” and off course, anotherR100 for penance,” explained Lorraine Cor-reia, wife of owner Nicky, as she laughinglytells of this tradition.

Trivial as it is, the money collected in thejar has seen thousands of terminal ill pa-tients through the last stages of their life todie with dignity.

This is the 15th year that Nicky and Lor-raine are donating a substantial amount inaid of the hospice.

A cheque for R25 000 was handed over atthe Pizza Pub on Friday night, as Nicky cele-brated his birthday.

“All the funds donated are raised by the‘swear jar’ and the annual potjiekos compe-tition,” says Lorraine who along with Nickythanked all their friends and patrons fortheir contributions.

Barry Evans, trustee of the hospice saidthat these fundswill greatly assist theTyger-berg Hospice to go the extra mile in the careand relief of people suffering with life threa-tening illness.

The animal hospital against which aformal complaint was lodged after thedeath of a Rottweiler, has contacted

TygerBuger with their side of events aftermore complaints came to light.In an article in TygerBurger (‘Dog died

waiting for care at vet’) published on 5 Fe-bruary, the story of Amiga, the Rottweilerof Nico Loubser, who died at the TygerbergAnimal Hospital (TAH) in Bellville, weretold.In that story Loubser alleges that he and

his friend weremade to wait unnecessarilyduring the last crucial moments of Amiga’slife, before she died under one of the ben-ches in the waiting room.

More complaintsLoubser laid a complaint with the South

African Veterinary Council (SAVC) inwhich he expressed his feelings about theemergency, he feels went ignored.Subsequent to that story, three other peo-

ple have come forward with complaints,twoofwhicharedirectedat theTAHinBell-ville and Brackenfell.These complaints were put to Dr John

Adam, a partner at the TAH.His response to these and Loubser’s com-

plaints are as follows: “(The) TAH is a mul-ti-man practice with over twenty vets andmany other nursing and orderly staff. Wepride ourselves on the servicewe deliver aswell as the high standards we set in termsof the care we give and the equipment andmodern technology we use in ensuring tho-se standards,” he said.“As in all large organisations there are

bound to be times when things are nothandled in an ideal manner. We always in-vestigate when complaints arise althoughthe number of complaints are far outweig-hed by the compliments and thanks we getfor serviceswe have rendered to our clientsand their pets,” he explained.“In cases where we find we could have gi-

ven better service we strive to correct anyshortcomings that we perceive.“We do not hesitate to admit where we

were found to be wanting, but by the sametoken vigourously defend our practice andstaff where we feel we have been accusedof failings that, in our opinion, did not war-rant the allegations.“One such case is that of the Rottweiler

Amiga, belonging to Mr Loubser. The mat-ter is now in the hands of the SAVC and,as such, is ‘sub iudice’. We will await theirinquiry before any further comment.”“We take any and all complaints very se-

riously,” he concluded.

CouncilThe SAVC have confirmed that Adam is

a member of the SAVC council.“While DrAdam is a SAVCCouncilmem-

ber, he is not involved in any investigationsconducted by the InvestigationsCommitteeof the SAVC in any manner at all,” said Di-namarie Stoltz, legal director at the SAVCabout the case concerning Amiga.“Council members are expected and in-

deed required to recuse themselves fromanymatter inwhich theymayhave a perso-nal interest or conflict of interest,” she said.“We received one complaint against a ve-

terinarian at one of TAH’s branches duringthe past five years, which was investigatedand dismissed due to a lack of grounds.”

“Dit word ál die jare so gedoen, maar onshet in die verlede ook al klagtes gehad,”het hy gesê. Volgens Germishuys oorweegsy skool egter om volgende jaar, as Dur-banville die gasheerskool is, aansoek tedoen vir die hou van ’n groot byeenkoms,

om dié probleem op te los.“Die koste daaraan is egter sowat R30 000

meer vir onder meer bykomende seker-heidspersoneel en toilette,” het hy gesê.“Daar moet dan ook voorsiening gemaakword vir allerhande veiligheidsmaatreëlssoos die teenwoordigheid van polisiebeamp-tes, brandweer- en ambulansdienste, watdeur die Stad Kaapstad voorsien word,” vol-gens hom.

Germishuys het gesê ouers en ander toe-skouers word wel versoek om hul kaartjiesby die hekke te laat as hulle gaan, sodat an-der dit kan gebruik, maar dit werk nie in diepraktyk so goed nie.

“Ons ondervinding is dat daar, buiten metdie openingseremonie, bykans nooit meer as250 toeskouers per skool op ’n gegewe tyd isnie,” het Germishuys gesê.

Ek wil spesifiek verwys nadie agterpad van Durbanvillena Milnerton en Contermans-kloof. Die pad is smal – opsommige plekke baie smal.Almal is haastig en metvoertuie wat van voor kom metverblindende ligte, is die sigsoms baie swak, veral vroegog-gend of laataand.

En dan die frustrerendste enkommerwekkendste aspek: Dieongeërgdheid van sommige(gelukkig enkele) fietsryers watnie by die reëls hou nie:Oorfone wat sy gehoor beperk

Eiendomme word ingevolge artikel 78(1) van die Wet op die derde aanvullende waardasielys (SV03) van die 2012- algemene waardasielysgeplaas indien dit: (a) foutiewelik uit die waardasielys gelaat is; (b) na die laaste algemene waardasie by die munisipaliteit ingesluit is; (c) na dielaaste algemene waardasie onderverdeel of gekonsolideer is; (d) ’n wesenlike toename of vermindering in markwaarde ondergaan het sedertdie laaste algemene waardasie; (e) in die laaste algemene waardasie aansienlik verkeerd gewaardeer is; (f) om enige ander buitengewone redeherwaardeer moet word; (g) waarvan die kategorie verander het.

Ingevolge artikel 49(1)(a)(ii) van die Wet kan enige eiendomsbesitter of ander persoon wat wil binne die gemelde tydperk ’n beswaar by diemunisipale bestuurder indien oor enige saak wat op die waardasielys verskyn of daaruit weggelaat is. Besware kan slegs ten opsigte vaneiendomme wat op die SV03-lys gewaardeer is, ingedien word. Die eienaars van hierdie eiendomme sal skriftelik van hul SV03-waardasies inkennis gestel word by die posadres wat tans op die Stad se databasis is.

Aandag word spesifiek gevestig op die feit dat ’n beswaar ingevolge artikel 50(2) van die Wet met ’n spesifieke, individuele eiendom verbandmoet hou en nie teen die aanvullende waardasielys as ’n geheel ingedien kan word nie. Die vorms vir die indiening van besware is by die lokalehieronder genoem beskikbaar en kan van die webwerf afgelaai word. ’n Afsonderlike beswaarvorm moet vir elke eiendom ingevul word.

DuTiES (kEy RESuLT AREAS/OuTPuTS): Assist with effective booking in of received pharmaceuticalproducts from suppliers. • Assist with effective control of pharmaceutical stock. • Issue stock againstissue voucher. • Assist with efficient and secure packaging of pharmaceutical products for delivery.• Assist with effective control and distribution of finished pharmaceutical orders to demanders.• Compliance with Good Pharmacy Practice and Good Warehouse Practice.
