1. Form and Shape
![Page 5: Tx 10 & 11 design powerpoint](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022070317/5564ec5ed8b42afb268b5028/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
Silhouette or outside line
![Page 6: Tx 10 & 11 design powerpoint](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022070317/5564ec5ed8b42afb268b5028/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
Fitted garment emphasizes body contours
![Page 7: Tx 10 & 11 design powerpoint](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022070317/5564ec5ed8b42afb268b5028/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
Less fitted camouflages body
![Page 8: Tx 10 & 11 design powerpoint](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022070317/5564ec5ed8b42afb268b5028/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
A rectangle is the shape when top & bottom are about equal in width
narrow rectangles are more slenderizing
a boxy shape decreases height
![Page 9: Tx 10 & 11 design powerpoint](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022070317/5564ec5ed8b42afb268b5028/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
A triangle is the silhouette when garment is wider at top or bottom
![Page 10: Tx 10 & 11 design powerpoint](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022070317/5564ec5ed8b42afb268b5028/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
shoulder width balances wider hips, reduces height
![Page 11: Tx 10 & 11 design powerpoint](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022070317/5564ec5ed8b42afb268b5028/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
bottom width counteracts wide shoulders
![Page 12: Tx 10 & 11 design powerpoint](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022070317/5564ec5ed8b42afb268b5028/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
2. Line
Used skillfully these can create an
illusion, helping to make the figure
appear in better proportion.
![Page 13: Tx 10 & 11 design powerpoint](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022070317/5564ec5ed8b42afb268b5028/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)
vertical lines usually create illusion of height and slimness
include buttons, princess seams, etc.
![Page 14: Tx 10 & 11 design powerpoint](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022070317/5564ec5ed8b42afb268b5028/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)
repeated at even or wide intervals may cause figure to appear shorter and wider
![Page 15: Tx 10 & 11 design powerpoint](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022070317/5564ec5ed8b42afb268b5028/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)
Horizontal lines tend to cut height, especially when used at body centre
![Page 16: Tx 10 & 11 design powerpoint](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022070317/5564ec5ed8b42afb268b5028/html5/thumbnails/16.jpg)
one horizontal above or below the middle appears to lengthen
horizontal lines may be stripes or garment seams
![Page 17: Tx 10 & 11 design powerpoint](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022070317/5564ec5ed8b42afb268b5028/html5/thumbnails/17.jpg)
Diagonal lines may contribute height or width, depending on their length and angle
long diagonal gives feeling of length
![Page 18: Tx 10 & 11 design powerpoint](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022070317/5564ec5ed8b42afb268b5028/html5/thumbnails/18.jpg)
short diagonal gives impression of width
![Page 19: Tx 10 & 11 design powerpoint](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022070317/5564ec5ed8b42afb268b5028/html5/thumbnails/19.jpg)
Curved lines produce the same effect as straight lines of similar length and placement
the visual impact is softer, and they may add roundness
![Page 20: Tx 10 & 11 design powerpoint](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022070317/5564ec5ed8b42afb268b5028/html5/thumbnails/20.jpg)
3. Texture and Pattern
Includes light reflection (sheen), feel
(rough or smooth), appearance, and
hand (degree of stiffness or softness).
![Page 21: Tx 10 & 11 design powerpoint](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022070317/5564ec5ed8b42afb268b5028/html5/thumbnails/21.jpg)
Shiny fabric makes body appear larger
Dull fabric is more slimming
![Page 22: Tx 10 & 11 design powerpoint](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022070317/5564ec5ed8b42afb268b5028/html5/thumbnails/22.jpg)
Rough or fluffy textures are bulky and tend to make figures look larger
Stiff fabrics conceal figure, but make it appear larger
Soft, smooth textures work for any figure type
![Page 23: Tx 10 & 11 design powerpoint](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022070317/5564ec5ed8b42afb268b5028/html5/thumbnails/23.jpg)
Use care when combining different patterns
![Page 24: Tx 10 & 11 design powerpoint](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022070317/5564ec5ed8b42afb268b5028/html5/thumbnails/24.jpg)
Always consider size of pattern in relationship to size of wearer
![Page 25: Tx 10 & 11 design powerpoint](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022070317/5564ec5ed8b42afb268b5028/html5/thumbnails/25.jpg)
4. Color
![Page 26: Tx 10 & 11 design powerpoint](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022070317/5564ec5ed8b42afb268b5028/html5/thumbnails/26.jpg)
Reds, oranges, and yellows are described as warm colors
They seem to advance, are noticed more, and may make objects appear larger
the same is true of intense, bright or light colors
![Page 27: Tx 10 & 11 design powerpoint](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022070317/5564ec5ed8b42afb268b5028/html5/thumbnails/27.jpg)
Cool colors seem to recede and are noticed less
Objects in these colors may appear smaller
The same is true of less intense, dull or darker colors
![Page 28: Tx 10 & 11 design powerpoint](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022070317/5564ec5ed8b42afb268b5028/html5/thumbnails/28.jpg)

2. Proportion
This refers to a pleasing relationship of parts in a design.
The most pleasing proportion is a ratio of 3:5 (as in human body), and is called the Golden Mean.
![Page 40: Tx 10 & 11 design powerpoint](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022070317/5564ec5ed8b42afb268b5028/html5/thumbnails/40.jpg)
An outfit is “divided” into spaces by necklines, waistline, hemlines, accessories, etc.
![Page 41: Tx 10 & 11 design powerpoint](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022070317/5564ec5ed8b42afb268b5028/html5/thumbnails/41.jpg)
3. Rhythm
Rhythm is the movement of the eye from one part of the design to another.
It allows the eye to glide smoothly from one part of a design to another.
![Page 42: Tx 10 & 11 design powerpoint](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022070317/5564ec5ed8b42afb268b5028/html5/thumbnails/42.jpg)
Rhythm by Repetition
Repetition of lines, shapes, colors, pleats, etc.
![Page 43: Tx 10 & 11 design powerpoint](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022070317/5564ec5ed8b42afb268b5028/html5/thumbnails/43.jpg)
Rhythm by Gradation
Gradually increasing or decreasing a shape or size, or by lightening or darkening colors
![Page 44: Tx 10 & 11 design powerpoint](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022070317/5564ec5ed8b42afb268b5028/html5/thumbnails/44.jpg)
Rhythm by Radiation
Lines coming out from a central point, such as gathers or a circular yoke
![Page 45: Tx 10 & 11 design powerpoint](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022070317/5564ec5ed8b42afb268b5028/html5/thumbnails/45.jpg)
