Dear Parents and Guardians,
Let us begin by saying how much we miss all of our students and families! Although, none of us have been faced
with a pandemic before; USD 240 students, families, educators and communities have quickly risen to the occasion!
We would like to say thank you for your patience, flexibility, kindness and support during this time as we work to
respond and adapt accordingly.
The next few weeks will not be easy; please know that there will be mistakes, problems, and concerns along the wayand we will continue to do our best to serve our most important assets; your children. However, there will also be
successes, happiness, hope, laughter, fun, and purpose! With this said, we understand many of you are still working
and have several children to help, financial concerns, health issues, and an array of other obligations. As we
progress with our educational efforts we want you to know that our School Social Workers remain on staff to
support our students and families during these challenging times. Please feel free to reach out to them via email,
Crystal VanCoevern: [email protected] and/or Amanda Davidson: [email protected].
You will find a local Resource List that includes a multitude of local resources and services; including: our local
food pantry (LOVE Inc.) open on Tuesday and Thursday from 10-4; (785) 392-3474. Also, we encourage you to
utilize our Grab & Go Lunch and Breakfast opportunity- these will be provided for anyone through the end of what
would be considered the end of the school year- see ordering specifics below!
If need be; Central Kansas Mental Health Center is open and providing an array of services via: in person,
telephonic and/or video conferencing; contact them at (785) 823-6322.
Please do not stress over schoolwork as we move forward with online learning and/or printed packet opportunities.
Frustrations are high due to our circumstances and we don't want to increase the stress on our families. We are
going to do our best to provide schoolwork to keep our students' minds moving forward. But you are the parents and
they are with you, so you have control to adjust as needed for your child/children. If you have specific questions besure to contact your students teachers in the upcoming weeks.
A few things to keep in mind:
Our calm increases children's calm.
• You are the most important Safe Place for your child.• The brain requires safety and connection. Be intentional about cultivating both.
Work to create a "new normal" together using routines and play.
• Provide helpful ways for children to contribute every day.
• Consciously choose to see the best in others and circumstances.
We will continue to provide updated resources, social-emotional topics and information from your school socialworkers that can be found on our USD 240 social media pages as well as our USD240 web page. REMEMBER, we
are all in this together! If you need support, reach out.
