«Cuando venga el Hijo del hombre, ¿encontrará fe en la tierra?» (Lc 18, 8). !!
La primera lectura bíblica, tomada del libro del Éxodo, nos presenta una imagen significativa, Moisés en oración con las manos levantadas al cielo, a la vez que desde una cima sigue la batalla de su pueblo contra los amalecitas. Mientras Moisés tenía elevadas las manos, Israel prevalecía. Dado que a Moisés le pesaban los brazos, le pusieron una piedra para que se sentara, mientras que Aarón y Jur le sostenían los brazos, uno a cada lado. Él permaneció en oración hasta la puesta del sol, hasta la derrota de Amalec por parte de Josué (cf. Ex 17, 11�13). !!
Éste es un icono de extraordinaria fuerza expresiva: el icono del pastor orante. Es difícil encontrar una referencia más elocuente para todas las situaciones en las que el nuevo Israel, la Iglesia, tiene que combatir contra los diferentes «amalecitas». En cierto sentido, todo depende de las manos de Moisés levantadas al cielo. !!
La oración del pastor sostiene a la grey. Esto es seguro. Pero también es verdad que la oración del pueblo sostiene a quien tiene la misión de guiarlo. Así ha sido desde el principio. Cuando Pedro es encarcelado en Jerusalén para ser condenado a muerte, como Santiago, después de las fiestas, toda la Iglesia rezaba por él (cf. Hch 12, 1�5). Los Hechos de los Apóstoles narran que fue liberado milagrosamente de la cárcel (cf. Hch 12, 6�11). Así ha sucedido innumerables veces a lo largo de los siglos. La oración de la Iglesia tiene una gran fuerza. !!
Después de su resurrección, Cristo preguntó tres veces a Pedro: «¿Me amas?» (cf. Jn 21, 15�17). El Apóstol, consciente de su debilidad, respondió: «Señor, tú lo sabes todo; tú sabes que te amo», y recibió de él el mandato: «Apacienta mis ovejas» (Jn 21, 17). El Señor confió esta misión a Pedro y, en él, a todos sus sucesores. !!
¡Poco antes de afrontar la pasión, Jesús dice a Pedro: «¡Simón, Simón! Mira que Satanás ha solicitado el poder cribaros como trigo; pero yo he rogado por ti, para que tu fe no desfallezca. Y tú, una vez convertido, confirma a tus hermanos» (Lc 22, 31�32). «Confirmar en la fe a los hermanos» es, por tanto, uno de los aspectos esenciales del servicio pastoral encomendado a Pedro y a sus sucesores. En la liturgia de hoy, Jesús hace esta pregunta: «Cuando venga el Hijo del hombre, ¿encontrará fe en la tierra?». Es una pregunta que interpela a todos, porque el sucesor de Pedro como Moisés se apoya en la iglesia orante que le sostiene.!!
« ¿Cuando él venga, encontrara fe en la tierra?». Cada año se acerca su venida. Al celebrar el santo sacrificio de la misa, después de la consagración, repetimos siempre: «Anunciamos tu muerte; proclamamos tu resurrección. ¡Ven, Señor Jesús!». Cuando venga, en la celebración de la misa este domingo ¿encontrará fe en la tierra…? Cuando Venga, ¿nos encontrará también rezando por el sucesor de Pedro en esta generación…?!! ! ! ! ! "When the Son of man comes, will he find faith on earth?" (Lk 18, 8).!!
The first biblical reading, taken from the book of Exodus, presents us with a significant image, Moses in prayer with his hands raised to heaven, while from the top he follows the battle of his people against the Amalekites. While Moses had his hands raised, Israel prevailed. Since Moses had his arms weighed, he was laid a stone to sit on, while Aaron and Hur held his arms, one on each side. He remained in prayer until sunset, until the defeat of Amalek by Joshua (cf. Ex 17, 11!13).�

This is an icon of extraordinary expressive force: the icon of the praying pastor. It is difficult to find a more eloquent reference for all situations in which the new Israel, the Church, has to fight against the different "Amalekites." In a sense, it all depends on the hands of Moses raised to heaven.�
!
The pastor's prayer holds the flock. This is safe. But it is also true that the prayer of the people sustains the one who has the mission to guide him. So it has been from the beginning. When Peter is imprisoned in Jerusalem to be put to death, like James, after the holidays, the whole Church prayed for him (cf. Acts 12, 1!5). The Acts of the Apostles narrates that he was miraculously released from prison (cf. Acts 12: 6!11). This has happened countless times over the centuries. The prayer of the Church has great strength.�!
After his resurrection, Christ asked Peter three times: "Do you love me?" (Cf. Jn 21, 15!17). The Apostle, aware of his weakness, replied: «Lord, you know everything; You know that I love you, ”and he received from him the command:“ Feed my sheep ”(Jn 21:17). The Lord entrusted this mission to Peter and, in him, to all his successors�!
Shortly before facing passion, Jesus says to Peter: «Simon, Simon! See that Satan has requested to be able to screen you like wheat; but I have prayed for you, so that your faith does not faint. And you, once converted, confirm your brothers.”(Lk 22, 31!32) "Confirming the faith in the brothers" is, therefore, one of the essential aspects of the pastoral service entrusted to Peter and his successors. In today's liturgy, Jesus asks this question: "When the Son of man comes, will he find faith on earth?" It is a question that questions everyone, because Peter's successor like Moses relies on the prayerful church that sustains him.�!
"When he comes, would he find faith on earth?" Each year its coming approaches. In celebrating the holy sacrifice of the Mass, after consecration, we always repeat: «We announce your death; we proclaim your resurrection. Come, Lord Jesus! When he comes this Sunday to you in the celebration of the mass will he find faith on earth…? Will he find you praying for the successor of Peter in this generation…?�

A workshop on "Understanding and Coping with Addiction: A Spiritual Perspective" will be presented on Wednesday, October 23, at 7PM by Ms. Rebecca Mullan, Clinical Director, St. Jerome Counseling !Program. This workshop educates on how our Catholic Faith !integrates with traditional clinical and therapeutic methods to promote healing for those struggling with addictions and the people who love them. Registration forms are in the vestibule areas, or use Eventbrite to register online. The cost of this workshop is $10 per person.!!

Karol Józef Wojtyla, known as John
Paul II since his October 1978 election to
the papacy, was born in the Polish town
of Wadowice on May 18, 1920. He was
the youngest of three children born to
Karol Wojtyla and Emilia Kaczorowska.
His mother died in 1929. His eldest
brother Edmund, a doctor, died in 1932
and his father, a non�commissioned !
army officer died in 1941. A sister, Olga,
had died before he was born.!He was baptized on June 20, 1920
in the parish church of Wadowice by Fr. Franciszek Zak, made
his First Holy Communion at age 9 and was confirmed at 18. In
1942, aware of his call to the priesthood, he began courses in the
clandestine seminary of Krakow, run by Cardinal Adam Stefan
Sapieha, archbishop of Krakow. After the Second World War, he
continued his studies in the major seminary of Krakow. He was
ordained to the priesthood by Archbishop Sapieha in Krakow on
November 1, 1946. He finished his doctorate in theology in 1948
with a thesis on the subject of faith in the works of St. John of the
Cross (Doctrina de fide apud Sanctum Ioannem a Cruce). At that
time, during his vacations, he exercised his pastoral ministry
among the Polish immigrants of France, Belgium and Holland.!In
1948 he returned to Poland and was vicar of various parishes in
Krakow as well as chaplain to university students. On July 4,
1958, he was appointed titular bishop of Ombi and auxiliary of
Krakow by Pope Pius XII, and was consecrated September 28,
1958, in Wawel Cathedral, Krakow, by Archbishop Eugeniusz
Baziak.!On January 13, 1964, he was appointed archbishop of
Krakow by Pope Paul VI. The Cardinals elected him Pope at the
Conclave of 16 October 1978, and he took the name of John
Paul II. On 22 October, the Lord's Day, he solemnly inaugurated
his Petrine ministry as the 263rd successor to the Apostle Peter.
His pontificate, one of the longest in the history of the Church,
lasted nearly 27 years.! He made 104 pastoral visits !
outside Italy and 146 within Italy. As bishop of Rome he visited
317 of the city's 333 parishes.!His love for young people brought
him to establish the World Youth Days. The 19 WYDs celebrated
during his pontificate brought together millions of young people
from all over the world.! He gave an extraordinary impetus to !
Canonizations and Beatifications, focusing on countless !
examples of holiness as an incentive for the people of our time.
He celebrated 147 beatification ceremonies during which he !
proclaimed 1,338 Blesseds; and 51 canonizations for a total of
482 saints. He promulgated the Catechism of the Catholic
Church in the light of Tradition as authoritatively interpreted by
the Second Vatican Council. In the light of Christ risen from the
dead, on 2 April a.D. 2005, at 9.37 p.m., while Saturday was
drawing to a close and the Lord's Day was already beginning, the
Octave of Easter and Divine Mercy Sunday, the Church's beloved
Pastor, John Paul II, departed this world for the Father.!From that
evening until April 8, date of the funeral of the late Pontiff, more
than three million pilgrims came to Rome to pay homage to the
mortal remains of the Pope. Some of them queued up to 24
hours to enter St. Peter's Basilica.!He was canonized by Pope
Francis on April 27, 2014. His Feast Day is: October 22.!
