Catholic Bibles

It used to be that Catholics did not know the Bible very well at all. Every Catholic home had a Bible, but it was used only as a record book. Into it were inscribed the vital statistics of family members. When Grandpa died. When Aunt Tillie got married. When Cousin Susie was born. It was all in there, penned very carefully for the sake of accuracy, beauty, and the testimony of faith.

Now it is different. We may still use our Bibles for records, but we also use them for prayer, both as individuals and as a family. Even at church, Catholics hear readings from the Bible at every service. We have opened our hearts to the word of God in church and at home.

It is a big book. We will never explore it fully. But we are getting more comfortable with it as a source of inspiration and direction. It is a good thing.

The Second Letter to Timothy says, “All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for refutation, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that one who belongs to God may be competent, equipped for every good work.”

We who belong to God use the Bible as our guide. It equips us for every good work. Whenever we have questions, problems, curiosities, or a desire to give praise, the Bible is there for our use. Are you using yours?

Community Outreach Ministry With the help of several women and your generous donations of personal hygiene items, we

completed 52 blessing bags for the homeless which we distributed to Mc Cauley House, Mathewson St Ch and Operation Stand Down a Veteran's shelter in Johnston. We promised Emmanuel House another Catholic shelter for men, with a supply of blessing bags in the near future. We still need a few more supplies however. When you are in the Dollar Store or Job Lot, please consider picking up hand and toe warmers, white socks, shaving cream, razors, men's deodorant, tissues and wipes. Remember these are to be trial size. The homeless are on the streets all day and need bags of items that are easy to carry. We are still collecting hoodies, coats, sweaters, hats, scarfs, gloves and mittens for the shelters. With sincere gratitude. Carolyn & Marge

St. Robert Bellarmine UPDATED CAMPAIGN NEWSLETTER

THE TIME IS NOW: THIS IS COMMITMENT WEEKEND!

One of the major elements of the Grateful for God’s Providence Campaign focuses on helping each of the parishes in our Diocese address their own needs. Each parish will receive 40% of every dollar raised up to their campaign goal, and 60% of every dollar raised above their goal. By working together to achieve our overall campaign goal of $423,714, our parish family will receive $169,486. Our plan is to use Grateful for God’s Providence proceeds to address the following identified needs:

Add a restroom, with handicap accessibility, on the main level of the church.

Add an elevator or lift system so as to make the parish hall accessible to all.

*************************

Together, we must affirm our commitment to our Catholic faith, parish, and

Diocesan community. We need everyone to prayerfully consider what they can do to help our Diocese and our parish plan for the future.

Please fill out your pledge card today and place it in the offering basket. No

down payment is necessary to make your pledge. We’re challenging every family to consider a 4-year pledge, but every kind of sacrificial gift is welcome.

Pledge Cards are available throughout the Church.
