Excerpt from Tradition TenOA has excitement enough to offer, as we hopeless comp~~lsivovee reatersrecover through the miracle of the twelve steps. This couldnot happen if we allowed outside issues to turn our Fellowship into aplatform for debate. Prayer Is Talking To God; Meditation Is Listening. I learned to pray as an adult. Even so, I was like a child, thinking that prayer was asking for what I wanted. I wanted good outcomes, good things for my loved ones, and good health for myself. Amazingly, many times these prayers were answered. My higher power seemed to be training me to believe in her and to trust in her presence in my life. After what seemed like several miracles, I began a relationship with her that was unshakable. Later on, I began to feel the need for something more in that relationship. I needed to reach deeper inside of myself and to give up my requests. I needed to learn instead of to demand. This meant that I had to create stillness in my heart and brain. I needed to create space for my higher power to fill. I needed guidance, something I rejected when I was a teenager, and to give up my impatience and need for action. I needed to become a vessel that was empty and ready to fill from the great universal spirit. This phase was much harder and took much longer. I am still and always will be working on it. Yet, it is much more fulfilling, because the thoughts and ideas it brings me are so much more powerful than anything I could have thought of myself. The miracles still continue, but I play a smaller part in making them happen. I feel the constant companionship of the higher power within, who is an incredibly wise and helpful resource. by Susan M

September has always been a time for a new school year and new experiences. Being in recovery has brought so many new experiences and learning every single day. On August 11th, we had a wonderful workshop on Sponsorship. Thank you to everyone who participated and gave service that day. I came away with new thoughts about being a sponsor and having sponsees.

At our last Intergroup meeting, committees have started to form for our Region’s Convention to be held in July at the Town Center Marriott. We need everyone to give some sort of service that weekend. This will give all of us an opportunity to meet new people, work with others, and have fellowship. “Every time I give service without counting the hours I give or looking for any reward, I am filled with freedom, friendship, joy, and abstinent recovery.” Voices of Recovery - p. 284

Please save the date for our Gratitude Luncheon to be held on Saturday, November 17, 2012. It has always been a wonderful afternoon that we share with the Gold Coast Intergroup. Don’t forget to send in your registration for our annual Spiritual Retreat to be held on November 30 - December 2, 2012. We always come away refreshed, renewed, and spiritually replenished.

Thank you for letting me share,

The OA PromiseI put my hand in yours,...and together we can do what we could never do alone! No longer is there a sense of hopelessness, no longer must we each depend upon our own unsteady willpower. We are all together now, reaching out our hands for power and strength greater than ours, and as we join hands, we find love and under-standing beyond our wildest dreams.

Tenth Step Prayer-I pray I may continue:To grow in understanding and effectiveness; To take daily spot check inventories of myself; To correct mistakes when I make them;To take responsibility for my actions; To be ever aware of my negative and self-defeating attitudes and behaviors; To keep my willfulness in check; To always remember I need Your help;To keep love and tolerance of others as my code; And to continue in daily prayer how I can best serve You, my Higher Power

“Whoever is aware of his own failings will

not find fault with the failings of other men.”

James Ross-

Other people’s faults invariably match my own. When I notice some particularly objectionable shortcoming in a person, I can generally be sure it is a defect I detest in myself.

Without self-awareness, the habit of finding fault is a distraction that keeps me from seeing my own mistakes. As long as I look at another’s wrongheadedness, I don’t see myself - the only person I can change.

A daily tenth step turns my attention to myself so 1 will know what to do to put my life in order.

Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong, promptly admitted it.

The moral deteriorations attendant on a false and shallow life are among the most pitiable wrongs that mortals suffer.

Nathaniel Hawthorne

At one time I needed to make a good impression, put up a facade that said everything was fine. That’s all I had, a facade. Today I have more,

but sometimes I still play the game, “If it looks good, it is good.”

Thank God, there is a part of my consciousness that is not impressed by appearances. I may try to silence it with distractions but it forces me to look at the truth. Once again, the tenth step brings incredible relief. It feels good to plan to correct myself, to make amends, where possible.

- For Today, p. 283

Excerpt from Tradition TenOA has excitement enough to offer, as we hopeless comp~~lsivovee reatersrecover through the miracle of the twelve steps. This couldnot happen if we allowed outside issues to turn our Fellowship into aplatform for debate. For this reason, the tenth tradition of having noopinion on outside issues is one of our most carefully guarded practicesin OA.The TweLve Steps and Twelve Traditions of Overeaters Anonynlous. p. 191
