up improvised checkpoints. Vigilante orces also openedfire on a car o tourists afer they reused to stop at a road-block and took the towns ex-security director into custody.

Te reason or this armed takeover was that the vigi-lante group accused the ex-security director o participat-ing in the killingo vigilante leaderGuadalupe QuinonesCarbajal on behal o

local drug cartels.Te vigilantesturned over the ar-rested ex-securitydirector and policeofficers to Mexi-can state prosecu-tors, who agreed toinvestigate theiralleged ties to drugcartels. Even thoughonly one person wasconfirmed injured

during the takeover, the incident high-lights the creation o a third orce in the ongoing Mexicandrug war.

Mexicos Three-Way Civil WarCaught in between murderous drug cartels and corruptgovernment officials, the citizens o dozens o Mexican vil-lages have recently risen up to take the law into their ownhands. In the southern state o Guerrero, armed civilianmilitias are now trying to orbid entry to army officials, ed-eral police and all strangers. Dozens o people with alleged

drug cartel connections have been imprisoned to awaitpublic trials where local vi llagers act as judge and jury.

Tough crime has declined in many areas taken overby civilian militias, concerns have suraced that vigilantesmay be violating the law and the human rights o peoplethey detain. In addition to those shot or reusing to stopat checkpoints, stories have emerged o brutal torturetechniques being used to extract conessions out o people

    arrested withoutwarrants.

    Governmentauthorities have

also accused at leastone vigilante mili-tia in the northernMichoacan state obeing a ront or adrug cartel. Whetheror not this accusa-tion was true, thearmy was sent intothe region in earlyMarch to arrest atleast members othe vigilante group.

local police officers the group had been holding captive toawait public trial.

Last month, the government o Mexican PresidentEnrique Pea Nieto sent , soldiers and , ederalpolice into the area to combat the Knights emplar drugcartel and disarm the various vigilante networks. Afer ourmembers o a sel-deense group were arrested by gov-ernment soldiers, villagers took up clubs and surround-ed the soldiers until two o the detainees were released.

    U.S. to Arm SyrianRebels

WALL STREET JOURNAL | June 14

P B Obama autho-rized his administration to providearms to rebels fighting Syrian Presi-dent Bashar al Assad, officials said

Tursday, a major policy shif afer theWhite House said it had confirmedthat Damascus used chemical weap-ons in the countrys civil war.

Te classified order directing theCentral Intelligence Agency to coor-dinate arming the rebels in concertwith its allies reverses a long-standingpolicy that limited the U.S. to provid-ing nonlethal support.

Te White House declined to com-ment on the authorization, saying onlythat Mr. Obama had decided to ramp

up military support to moderaterebels both in scope and scale.

U.S. officials also told TeWallStreet Journalon Tursday that the U.S.military proposal or arming the rebelsalso calls or a limited no-fly zoneinside Syria that would be enorcedby U.S. and allied planes on Jordanianterritory to protect Syrian reugees andrebels who would train there.

Such a move, i the White Housegoes ahead, would represent a

significantly bigger U.S. engagementin Syrias civil war.

U.S. officials said the issue dividedMr. Obamas national security teambut that the administration aced littlechoice other than to step up its supportor risk watching as rebels lose still moreground to a resurgent Assad regimebacked by Russia, Iran and soldiers

rom the militant Hezbollah group. Ben Rhodes, the White HouseDeputy National Security Advisor orStrategic Communications, said theU.S. has concluded that orces loyal tothe Syrian regime have used chemicalweapons against rebels, resulting in upto deaths.

Te U.S. determination came thesame day the United Nations re-ported that the number o deaths inthe -month conflict has surpassed,.

Te plan would create what oneofficial called a no fighting zonethat would stretch up to miles intoSyrian territory along the Jordanianborder, preventing Mr. Assads orcesrom launching attacks against therebels and reugees and protectingU.S. personnel involved in distributingweapons and providing training.

Under this plan, the U.S. and its al-lies would enorce the zone using air-craf flown rom Jordanian bases and

flying inside the kingdom, accordingto U.S. officials.

Te U.S. has already moved Patriotair deense batteries and F- fighterplanes to Jordan, which could be inte-gral to any no-fly zone i Mr. Obamaapproves the military proposal.

n Spillover violence in LebanonLebanon is eeling the effects othe ongoing civil war in Syria with

violence having erupted betweenthe Salafists and Alawites in theLebanese city o ripoli. Te Sunnimajority is once again fighting theShiites, with backing on both sidesrom outside players. Te Saudishave been accused o arming theSalafists in Lebanon in an attempt toundermine Hezbollahs role in Syria.

Iraq is alsoexperiencing heavy fighting betweenSunni and Shiite groups as a result othe violence in Syria. Te month oMay was the bloodiest since the U.S.withdrew its orces, claiming the liveso , Iraqis and injuring another,, according to a United Nationsreport. Bible prophecy says that both

E, Muslim Brotherhood rule, and ehran are

becoming increasingly close, and their relationship willbe maintained ollowing Irans presidential elections onFriday, according to experts.

Relations with Egypt are o interest to all candidatesrunning or elections in Iran, Mohamed Nagi, a politicalexpert at the al-Ahram Center or Political and StrategicStudies, told Al Arabiya English.

Egypt wouldnt preer a certain candidate in these elec-tions, he said, because it knows that Irans oreign affairsare determined by its supreme leader.

Te Muslim Brotherhood is closer to ehran than anyother Islamist group, and closer ideologically than anyother Islamist current, Ali Akbar Velayati, adviser to Su-

preme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and ormer oreign

    minister, said earlier this year.

ies between ehran and Cairo have strengthenedsince Mohamed Morsi became Egypts president in .His visit to Iran in August was the first by an Egyp-tian leader in more than three decades. It was ollowedby President Mahmoud Ahmadinejads visit to Cairo inFebruary to attend a conerence o the Organization oIslamic Cooperation.

Iran can be Egypts last alternative i it ails to receiveInternational Monetary Fund loans and financial aid romGul countries, said Nagi.

Te Muslim Brotherhood, which Morsi hails rom, pursues an open-door policy towards Iran, unlike Salafists, who have stricter views concerning bilateral relations with

Syria and Lebanon will ultimately bebroken rom their all iance with Iran.Iraq, on the other hand, will remainin the Iranian camp. Read the proph-ecy or yoursel in Psalm , where

it speaks o the nations that will bealigned against Iran. It makes men-tion o the Hagarenesthe peoplewho once inhabited the land knowntoday as Syriaand Gebalthe

U.S. S o State John Kerry [o]n Monday an-nounced that he will be returning to Israel and thePalestinian Authority and Jordan or the fifh timesince hewas sworn into office on February . Tat is an average o

more than one visit a month. And aside rom requent flyer miles, the only thing he

has to show or it is a big black eye rom chie and Pal-estinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas.

When Kerry was here last month he unveiled a stunningplan to bring billion in investment unds to the PA. I hisplan actually pans out, its champions claim it will increasethe PAs by a mind-numbing percent in three yearsand drop Palestinian unemployment rom to percent.

Standing beore world and regional leaders on May ,Kerry said plaintively, Tis will help build the uture. Isthis a antasy? I dont think so.

Abbas and his underlings wasted no time, however, in

demonstrating that indeed, Kerrys plan is antasy. []he popular Palestinian response to last weeks World

Economic Forum in Jordan was to attack the business-men who accompanied Abbas to the conerence. Teir

crime was meeting with Israeli businessmen who came tothe conerence in Peress entourage.

And again, that isnt all. At the s birthday celebra-tions this week, Abbas said that the groups charterreflects the will o the Palestinian people. Tat charter callsor the destruction o Israel.

But wait, theres more. Te Palestinian leadership at-

tacked Kerry personally and his plan as an attempt to bribethem. Tey promised that while they will happily take themoney, billion measly dollars wont convince them tomoderate one iota.

Since he entered office, Obama has responded to everydeeat by doubling down and radicalizing.

And now, as his Middle East strategy o appeasingIslamists lies in the ruins o the U.S. consulate in Benghaziand in the cemeteries interning the Syrians murdered insarin gas attacks as Obama shrugged his shoulders, Obamais again doubling down.

What this means or Israel is we cannot be lured intocomplacency by Kerrys buffoonery or Obamas apparent

political weakness. Tis is a man who is most dangerouswhen attacked. And this is a man who is absolutely com-mitted to his ideological agenda. We had better be ready, because i we are not, we wont know what has hit us.

T o the European Union like to thinko it as an entirely new phenomenon, born o the horrorso two world wars. But in act it closely resembles a orma-tion that many Europeans thought they had long since

lef to the dustbin o history: the Holy Roman Empire, thepolitical commonwealth under which the Germans livedor many hundreds o years.

Some might take that as a compliment; afer all, theempire lasted or almost a millennium. But they shouldnt.I anything, todays Europe still has to learn the lessons othe empires ailures.

Te similarities with the Holy Roman Empirewhich atits greatest extent encompassed almost all o Central Europeexist at many levels. odays European Council, at whichthe Unions member states gather, reminds one o the oldReichstag, where the representatives o the German cities andprincipalities met to deliberate matters o mutual concern.

And like the European project, which originated in adetermination to banish war afer , the modern HolyRoman Empire, which was reormed by the reaty oWestphalia, was intended to deuse the domestic Germanantagonisms that had culminated in the traumatic TirtyYears War.

But most similarities are less flattering. Both the Euro-pean Union and the empire are characterized by intermi-nable and inconclusive debate. And like the EuropeanUnion, which is rived by tensions between larger andsmaller states, the Holy Roman Empire proved too weak tocontain over-mighty members like Prussia and Austria.

odays constant round o European summit meetings

and reorm initiatives remind one o nothing so muchas the interminable and utile German imperial reormdebate, and they are likely to have a similarly unhappy, iless spectacular, end.

Fortunately, there is a solution rom history. Te euro-zone aces the same choice as the Holy Roman Empire oold: how to overcome discredited orms o conederation.Rather than digging themselves into a deeper recession anddemocratic deficit through austerity measures, the states inthe common currency need to orm a ull and mighty unionon Anglo-American lines. Tey must create a strong execu-tive presidency elected by popular vote across the eurozone,a truly empowered house o citizens elected according to

population and a senate representing the regions.Te existing sovereign debts should be ederalized

through a Union Bond, with a strict subsequent debt ceil-ing or the member state governments. Tere will have tobe a single European military and one language o govern-ment and politics .

Copa-Cogeca, a pan-European or-ganization that represents armers andgrowers cooperatives, said Tursday(June ) it was evaluating flood dam-age in Austria, the Czech Republic,Germany, Hungary and Slovakia.

Areas along the Danube in south-ern Germany and Austria, and alongthe Vltava in the Czech Republic, are

some o the nations most ertile agri-cultural and wine-producing regions.

In parts o Italy, Copa-Cogeca said, wheat, barley and oats have been

aected and maize and sunlowercrops could also suer.Amid dramatic photos o floodwa-

ters threatening picturesque townsand the -year-old Charles Bridge incentral Prague, the impact on arminghas had little attention. But in addi-tion to overflowing streams and soggyfields, rescue personnel have protectedtowns by opening dikes to take pres-sure off surging rivers, flooding armsand pastures in the process.

    Pekka Pesonen, secretary-general

o Copa-Cogeca, told EurActiv it istoo late in Central Europes seasonto replant ields once the loodwatersrecede.

Te devastation ollows a series oextreme weather events that have hitEU armers in the past year, includinga severe drought in southern Europeand extreme flooding in the UnitedKingdom.

As long as ood stocks in majorproducing and consuming countries

remain low, the risk o price volatil-ity is amplified, [according to theOrganization or Economic Coopera-tion and Development]. A widespread

argument alleging that the EuropeanCentral Bank () has exceeded itsmandate as it tries to prevent the eu-rozone rom collapsing. Its expectedto rule on the case afer the Germanelection, which takes place in Septem-ber. Last August, when the euro crisislooked like it could take a turn orthe worst, the announced a newprogram to help prop up indebtedcountries. I an indebted country

first submitted to the EUs conditions(really Germanys conditions), the would lend the government anunlimited amount o money in orderto keep its borrowing costs down. Inorder to get around EU rules, its alittle more complicatedit cant buythe debt rom the government directly,

or examplebut thats the gist o itsplan. Quite understandably, a lot opeople in Germany are concerned bythe s promise to essentially printmoney and hand it over to govern-ments that cant pay their bills. Oneo these parties is the Bundesbank,Germanys central bank, which isopposing the in this court case.Spiegel quotes a court official say-ing: Te people at the are reallyaraid o the courts decision. Onceagain, the very existence o the euro is

threatened and no one knows how itsgoing to turn out. As weve pointedout since the start o the crisis, theeuro was designed to ail in order toorce EU nations to unite. Tis is animportant reminder that the drama inEurope is ar rom over.

T , U.S. officials considered a Chinese companys. billion bid or Smithfield Foods, which i success-ul would mark the largest-ever takeover o an Americancompany by a Chinese firm. Te bid, placed last month

by Chinas Shuanghui International, represents the latestmove in Beijings strategy o venturing into the UnitedStates to acquire industry, energy resources, assets, inra-structure, technical expertise and more. And debt-riddenAmerica is growing more eager all the time to embracethese ventures.

China has been making quiet inroads into the U.S. ordecades, but in recent years it has become considerablymore aggressive. In , Chinas acquisition o Americanbusinesses smashed the previous annual record. Tis year, its on course to break that record.

Unlike the situation in the U.S., the line in China be-tween government and business is gray at best and ofen to-

tally absent. Even in cases when there is separation in own-ership, Chinese companies are reluctant to flout Beijingsauthority. For these reasons, takeovers by Chinese firmsrepresent a concrete increase in Chinas national power.

Beijing seems most interested in Americas energyresources, and the Obama administration has reversedprevious U.S. policy by embracing Chinese investmentinto those industries. Since , Chinas two state-ownedoil giants have signed up or joint ventures with U.S. andCanadian oil projects totaling a worth of around billion.

Beore Shuanghui can complete the buyout o Smithfield

Foods, U.S. officials have to conclude their review and giveit the nod. But in light o the Obama administrations trackrecord, Shuanghui officials are optimistic.

Tanks in large part to the U.S.s grotesquely bloatedtrade deficit with Beijing, the Chinese have cash to spendtrillions o dollars o it. So they are investing all over theglobe, including in America. Washington wants to stay ongood terms with Beijing so that it can maintain its borrow-ing practices. For most U.S. policymakers, the economicnecessities o Chinese direct investment now trumpnational security concerns.

China is only just beginning to really flex its economicmuscle, and trends like the Chinese buyout o U.S. assets

reveal a shif in the global balance o power that is advanc-ing rapidly. Very soon, American influence will be not justrustrated by rising oreign powers, but altogether obliteratedrom global politics. Follow Jeremiah Jacques: Twitter

indifference, delays, and outrightdenials. Cole called it the presidentsbureaucratic blockade.

E the casual observer, it isevident this world has withstood aseries o proound crises over the lastdecade. Is it any wonder why manypeople now believe we are living in the

prophesied o this age?In his bookletAre We in the Last

Days?,Herbert W. Armstrong wrote, ime was, when some wild-eyed reakshouting a doomsday warning was ridiculed as off hisrocker. But today serious world leaders and scientists are say-ing grave things about the current drif in world conditions.

Added to that, never beore in historyuntil this gener-ationhas it been possible or man to destroy all flesh romthe Earth. Tis, in itsel, makes it possible or the prophecyo Matthew : to be ulfilled: And except those daysshould be shortened, there should no flesh be saved:but orthe elects sake those days shall be shortened.

And yet, many people still deceive themselves into think-ing there is no special danger right nowthat the world hasalways been like this. O course, this is true in part. From the

very beginning, it was man, under the influence o Satan, who introduced this world to selfishness, destruction anddeath. But imothy tells us that in the latter days, worldevents will take a turn or the worse. Tis, coupledwith the stark reality that never beore has human annihila-tion been possible as it is today, ought to !

In Matthew , the disciples came to Christ and askedHim what would be the sign o His coming and of the endof the world.

Now notice thefirstand most important warning Christgave them: And Jesus answered and said unto them, akeheed that no man deceive you. For many shall come inmy name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many(verses -).

Tis religious deception is the first horseman o theapocalypse! It is not just about deception from false, non-

Christian religions. People are going to be deceived aboutChrist and His messageabout what true Christianityreally is.

Christ went on to say, And ye shall hear o wars andrumours o wars: see that ye be not troubled: or all thesethingsmust come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nationshall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom:and there shall be amines, and pestilences, and earth-quakes, in divers places.

All this is only the beginning, He says in verse . Teseend-time events, Jesus continued, are leading to a , the likes o which this Earth has neverseen (verse ).Without Gods intervention, mankind would literally de-

stroy itsel (verse ).But we can thank God that all these sel-inflicted curses

will culminate in the prophesied return o Jesus Christ tothis Earth (verse ). Jesus Christ will set oot on this Earthor the second time, arriving in the exact same mannerHe lef the first time (Acts :). Tis time, however, Heisnt coming to sacrifice His lie or the sins o a rebelliousmankind. Tis time, He is coming to put an endto human suffering and death and to set up the Kingdom oGodthe royal Family o God that will administer Godsrighteous government over all the Earth!

analysts were expect-ing. Although more jobsare being produced, theyare not the types thatare going to improve theeconomy. Te first thingto notice in the report isthe kind o jobs that arentbeing created: the goods-producing jobs. In May,the U.S. lost, o these

    jobs. Te other thing to

take notice o is the kinds o jobs thatarebeing created: the vast majority

were low-paying service-providing jobs.Over hal the jobs created last monthwere limited to the restaurant sector, the retail trade and temporary employ-ment. Te report also showed that theunemployment rate isnt improving. InMay, the unemployment rate rose by .percent to . percent.

H is that? We wanted a president that listensto all Americansnow we have one.Tat was Jay Lenos take on the Obama administrations

expanding spying scandal, which has gone beyond

Verizon phone records to include Google, Facebook, Yahooand just about all the other major tech companies except, apparently, or witter.

Te spying scandal goes deep, and the Obamaadministrations only upside is that the uror over its pok-ing into Americans private business on a wholesale basiswill distract people rom the uror over the use o the and other ederal agencies to target political enemiesandeven donors to Republican causesand the uror overthe Benghazi screw-up and subsequent lies (scapegoatedfilmmaker Nakoula is still in jail), the uror over the FastAnd Furious gunrunning scandal that lef literally scoreso Mexicans dead, the scandal over the s poking into

But, in act, theres a common theme in all o these

scandals: Abuse o power. It all comes down to trust.Te justification or giving the government a lot o snoop-

ing power hangs on two key arguments: that snooping willmake us saer and that the snooping power wont be abused.

Has it made us saer? [A]ll that snooping didnt catch thesarnaev brothers beore they bombed the Boston Mara-thoneven though they made extensive use o e-mail and

the Internet, and even though Russian security officials hadwarned us that they were a threat. Te snooping didnt catchMaj. Nidal Hasan beore he perpetrated the Fort Hood Mas-sacre, though he should have been spotted easily enough. Itdidnt, apparently, warn us o the Benghazi attacks .

As or abuse, well, is it plausible to believe that a gov-ernment that would abuse the powers o the to attackpolitical enemies, go afer journalists who publish unflat-tering material or scapegoat a filmmaker in the hopes oproviding political cover to an election-season claim that alQaeda was finished would have any qualms about misusingthe massive power o government-run snooping and BigData? What weve seen here is a pattern o abuse.

Sooner or later, power granted tends to become powerabused.

Most Americans generally think that politicians areuntrustworthy. So why trust them with so much power? Teevidence to date strongly suggests that they arent worthy o it.

Americas Civil UnrestWhile the murder and civil pandemonium o Mexico mayseem remote to many Americans, the act is the exactsame drug cartels causing so much carnage south o theborder are operating in the United States. According to aFox News report, Mexican drug cartels are now dispatch-ing some o their most trusted agents to work deep inside

the U.S.a strategy designed to tighten their grip on theworlds most lucrative narcotics market.

According to Jack Riley, head o the Drug EnorcementAdministrations Chicago office, Its probably the most seri-ous threat the United States has aced rom organized crime.

Te U.S. Drug Enorcement Administration has esti-mated that Mexican drug trafficking organizations now op-erate in , American cities. Most o these operations areconducted via alliances with Americas major street gangs.Considering that there are approximately . million activegang members in America, the Mexican cartels are tappinginto a demographic orce as large as the U.S. military.

In Chicago alone, there are about , criminal gang

members, estimated by the to be responsible or percent o the citys shootings and murders. Tese statisticsbecome even more disturbing when you consider that thesedrug cartels and street gangs are not only cooperating witheach other, but also receiving logistical support rom Hez-bollah and the Iranian Quds Force.

Tis unholy alliance between Islamic terrorists, Mexicancartel agents and American street gangs represents Ameri-cas most serious domestic security threat!

Using a similar reasoning process to the vigilantemilitias in Mexico, American citizens are buying weaponsand personal firearms at a historically high rate. In the our

years since Barack Obama was first elected president, anestimated million firearms have been purchased in theUnited Statesmore than were purchased in almost sevenyears beore his first election. According to a New Yorkermagazine article rom last year, there are now nearly million privately owned firearms in the U.S.

As the economy in Detroit deteriorates and crimeskyrockets, the city is already experiencing an upsurgein American vigilantism. A high-ranking Wayne Countyofficial told Te Dailylast year that a rise in justifiablehomicides and vigilante justice has taken hold in the city asan overloaded court system turns a blind eye.

Its like the militiamen who stepped up way back when,

said James Jackson, a -year-old retired Detroit police o-ficer who has personally patrolled the Jefferson-Chalmersneighborhood on the citys southeast side or years. Teyreready to fight. We [rarely] see police anymore.

Some Detroit neighborhoods, such as East Indian Vil-lage and Boston-Edison, have even hired private securityfirms to send out armed patrols in neighborhoods whereofficial police patrols are notoriously behind schedule.

With this being the case, how much longer will it beuntil American cities start seeing Mexican-style civiliandeense militias?

Te American government is apparently seriously

considering the threat o such civil unrest and has alreadymade moves toward establishing a military-backed, eder-alized police orce. Te U.S. Department o Homeland Se-curity () is currently in the process o stockpiling morethan . billion rounds o hollow-point ammunition, alongwith , ully-automatic personal deense weaponsplus a huge stash o -round, high-capacity magazines.

o cap these purchases off, the , through the U.S.

Army Forces Command, recently purchased and retrofitted, Mine-Resistant Armored Protection vehicles ormerlyused or counterinsurgency in Iraq. Tese are specifi-cally designed to protect occupants rom ambush attacks, incorporating bullet-proo windows designed to withstandsmall-arms fire, such as that rom .-caliber rifles.

Why would a ederal law enorcement agency need suchmilitary hardware, unless the government was anticipatingmassive civil unrest? Is this the type o orce then presi-dential candidate Obama reerred to in his campaignremarks? During these remarks, he said, We cannotcontinue to rely only on our military in order to achievenational security objectives weve set. Weve got to have a

civilian national security orce thats just as powerul, justas strong, just as well unded.

Te arms race between Americas street gangs, Ameri-cas citizens and Americas government certainly does re-semble the three-way civil war currently raging in Mexico. Is America headed or massive civil unrest? Current condi-tions make it easy to imagine rightened citizens takingup arms against the organized crime syndicates operatingwith impunity across the nation. I this happened, wouldthe American government take a note rom the Mexicanplaybook, sending ederalized police to declare martial lawand disarm citizens?

Ezekiels ProphecyTis whole horrific situation is a perect example o thenatural consequences that come rom breaking Gods law.

In the first chapter o Isaiah and the fifh chapter o Eze-kiel, God reveals that the cities o end-time Israel will burnwith fire, pestilence and widespread violence as a conse-quence o the peoples rebellion against Gods law. Ezekiel saccount adds even more detail, explaining that one third othe population will be killed in violent looting and riot-ing just beore the country is invaded by the modern-daydescendents o the ancient Chaldeans.

Te current tension between American street gangs,

American citizens and American government is leadingto the ultimate fulfillment of this prophecy.Be sure to readboth editor in chie Gerald Flurrys new bookletAmericaUnder Attackand the ourth chapter o Ezekiel: Te End-ime Prophetto understand how events will unold in theUnited States and British Commonwealth nations.

While other scriptures oretell o a soon-coming time opeace and prosperity or the biblical nations o Israel (andthe rest o the planet), the sad truth is that humanity is go-ing to have to go through a time o intense suffering beoreit is willing to accept Gods rule on Earth.
