German Chancellor Angela Merkel will be hosting the meeting at the luxury Schloss Elmau hotel, where hotelier Dietmar Müller-Elmau has been planning the politicians’ visit for weeks: How can he offer his guests the best service possible? Who’s going in which suite? And what’s going to be on the menu? The region’s infrastructure is also being improved, and there are building sites everywhere. DISCOVER GERMANY

Refreshing Jewel on the Rhine The French philosopher Voltaire enthused about a “sanctuary of calm,” when the poet Heinrich von Kleist visited the city of Karlsruhe, he found it to be “clear and full of light.” This is understandable when you bear in mind that just a few decades previously, there had been a dense forest on the very same spot. It was 1715 when the Margrave Charles III William had the trees felled to build a new residence. His plan for the city was inspired by the solar system with streets fanning out from the center, where naturally his palace was located. To this day, Karlsruhe retains the charm of a Baroque new town – manageable in size, quirky and always with a surprise up its sleeve. Discover Germany explores the city on the Rhine that’s celebrating its 300th birthday this year.

IN GOOD SHAPE

Anti-Aging We're all growing older – but no one wants to be sick and frail in old age. Ideally, we will still be t, healthy and mobile even when we’re at an advanced stage of our lives. Nowadays,

“healthy aging” is the motto guiding research into reputable anti-aging medicine, which is primarily focused on how typical age-related complaints and illnesses can be avoided. Nutrition, exercise and stress avoidance are key factors here. Supplementary micronutri-ents and hormones are just some of the other ways we can stay youthful. And those who feel healthy are going to want to look younger too. Everyone’s talking about wrinkle busting treatments such as botox and hyaluronic acid these days – and more and more people are choosing to go under the knife for aesthetic reasons alone. In Good Shape explores what we can do to stay young, even when we’re old.
