Core Services Providing reading materials to the residents

of Tulare County. Finding information and reference material

as requested. Providing Literacy Services to assist

residents of Tulare County to be proficient in reading and life skills.

The Library provides access to more than 300,000 volumes of books, magazines, newspapers, videos, and audio books

Customers also have access to the San Joaquin Valley Library System (SJVLS), totaling close to 2,000,000 volumes. SJVLS is a consortium of 9 public libraries in 6 valley counties including Tulare County.

Library Circulation has increased 15% in the past four years.

libraries in the communities of: Alpaugh Dinuba Earlimart Exeter Ivanhoe Lindsay Orosi

Pixley Springville Strathmore Terra Bella Three Rivers Tipton Visalia Woodlake

The Library also operates Book Machines in Cutler, Tipton, East Porterville and in the Workforce Investment Board “One-Stops” in Visalia and Dinuba. The library has used these machines to provide mini-libraries in underserved areas.

The Tulare County Library has renovated six of its 15 libraries in the past four years with plans to renovate the remainder within the next five years.

ProgramsChildren

The children of Tulare County are a high priority for the Library. Story times are held in all branch libraries. Summer reading programs are provided to encourage recreational reading and to help children sustain the reading and comprehension skills learned in school. Performers and special programs are scheduled to help draw the children into these activities.

Children’s program attendance has increased 20% in the past year with over 60% of children completing the summer reading program

The READ TO SUCCEED Adult Literacy Program provides one-on-one tutoring services and conversation circles at the Literacy Center in Visalia, in the branch libraries and now in Tulare targeting a wide range of goals, including GED test preparation, improvement of basic reading and writing skills, and mastery of English as a second language (ESL).

Library provides access to technology: Wireless Internet, Public Access Computers, Nooks, and Chromebooks

Award Winning Teen program established Digital Media Lab for teens to experiment. Planned 2013/2014 Summer Reading Programs.

Computer Classes and Digital Literacy Program provides outreach to seniors.
