From The East

B rethren,

I wish to thank the brethren and family members who assisted me

during this past year as the Worshipful Master. Not much in

freemasonry can be accomplished alone. With the help of many,

working together, each contributing what they are able, a Worshipful

Master and his lodge can progress, can make good men better and all

can enjoy the benefits of brotherly love, relief and truth. I am certain

that the cooperation and support you have given me this past year will

continue with our new Worshipful Master and this coming year will be

a great success. Brother Jon Schmidt’s installation is scheduled for

December 5th at 2 pm; it will be an open lodge so please bring your

family and friends.

As we head into the holiday season I hope you and your loved ones

have wonderful Christmas, Hanukah and New Year celebrations and

you come back to lodge in January safe and sound and ready to

proceed with making good men better.

From The West

B rethren,

My Brethren, I would like to thank you for electing me as

Master of Tucson Lodge #4 for the ensuing year. It has

been an honor and privilege to serve the lodge as an officer

since I have been a Master Mason and now it is time for me

to serve in the East. I would also like to congratulate the

elected and appointed officers, and I have great confidence

they will serve the lodge well in their respective positions.

November has been busy in preparation for the next year,

and the success of the lodge will only be as good as the

efforts set forth by all the members. I would like to thank

the brethren who have provided feedback to me in the past

year. My door is always open to you, so please do not

hesitate to contact me with your ideas and/or concerns.

The plans for next year are already under way. This month

we are planning to charge for parking on Friday, December

18 and Saturday, December 19 for the Winter Haven light

festival. Worshipful Brother Vince Santos will be

facilitating this event. Brother Gene Wickey and the other

brothers in the committee are also doing and excellent job

getting everything prepared for the Rodeo Parade in

February. Also in December, Brother Will Wilkinson and

Brother Wesley Yandell have been busy with the Sierra

Bikes for Books event. The Masonic Bikes for Books

Program was awarded the Most Impactful DCI Community

Service Purpose Project from among competition for all the

DCI-Funded Purpose Projects across the entire United

States at their DCI Annual Corporate Meeting in October.

The installation for the 2016 officers will be on Saturday,

December 5 at 2:00PM. Presentations will be done by all

of the Masonic Youth Groups – JDI, Rainbow, and

DeMolay followed by a reception in the dining room. This

is an open installation so family and friends are also invited

to attend.

I would like to wish everyone a safe and blissful holiday season, and I hope you are looking forward to a great new year!

Fraternally,

-Jon Schmidt Senior Warden

TO THE STUDY OF GEOMETRY Water, Molecular Geometry and Masonry

Water is essential for all life on our planet. Likewise, water

is historically and remains an essential element and symbol

of Freemasonry. The great flood and the Ark of Noah

represent a means of eternal salvation. Water is included

within degree ritual, e.g., “rough sands of the sea.” Water is

used within the Masonic working tool known as the level.

Bread and water are components of the Chamber of

Reflection as symbols of simplicity and as the fundamental

sustenance needed to support vital physical human life. “The

bread and water represent the elements necessary to life,

but even though food and the material body are

indispensable, they remind the candidate that the physical

aspect should not be the main objective in one’s existence.”

W.B. Helio L. Da Costa Jr. Chamber of Reflection. Vancouver

Grand Masonic Day, October 16, 1999.

http://freemasonry.bcy.ca/texts/gmd1999/pondering.html

Molecular Geometry examines the three-dimensional

organization of the atoms that compose a molecule. An

atom is the most basic unit of a chemical element. An

element is a substance that cannot be decomposed into

simpler substances by chemical means. The location of every

atom in a molecule results from the attraction of chemical

bonds which link atoms to attach them to other atoms.

Geometrically speaking some of these connections are

linear and most are not. This special type of Geometry is

used to describe the shapes these connections display.

Molecular Geometry is required to discuss, analyze,

manufacture, study and create existing and new molecules

for the petrochemical industry, manufacturing,

pharmacology, agriculture, mining, biochemistry,

aeronautical engineering and medicine, as well as, many

other areas of business, research and education. Water is

the most basic, important and prevalent molecule in our

world. Water is certainly important in Freemasonry as

stated in the above paragraph. Water is composed of two

hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom. In chemical notation

it is H2O. Just about everyone knows the chemical notation

for water. Not many know that its chemical structure as

shown in Molecular Geometry is that of a tetrahedron. This

structure is shown in Figure 1. (See Figure 1) Molecules of

water when frozen as ice form a tetrahedron. (See Figure 2)

Figure 1. Molecular Geometry of Water

Figure 2. Molecular Geometry of Ice

A tetrahedron is a solid with four triangular faces; it is a

triangular pyramid. The tetrahedron is one of the five

Platonic Solids from antiquity. Some readers may recognize

a tetrahedron to be a pyramid; another important Masonic

symbol. “To the study of Geometry, therefore, your

attention is especially directed.”

Bro. William Wilkinson Attorney for

Grand Lodge of Arizona

The Grandmaster of Masons in Arizona, Most Worshipful J. Michael Atchley, has selected Tucson Lodge No. 4 Mason Bro. William Wilkinson to serve as the Grand Lodge Attorney during his tenure over 2015-2016. Bro. Will shall attend Arizona Grand Lodge Trustee meetings and oversee Grand Lodge legal matters and proceedings.

Tucson Rodeo Parade Tucson Lodge #4 will have a float in the Tucson Rodeo Parade on Feb 25th. Our Entry Application has already been submitted, and we have a wagon and 2 mules reserved to pull it. Some of our members, along with the youth groups, will ride on the trailer and others will walk with our group. The trailer will accommodate around 35. If you are interested in being in the parade, contact the Parade Chairman, Gene Wickey at: [email protected] or call him at 714-313-7000. Space is limited, so preference will be given to those who have difficulty walking. Minors in the parade need a Release of Liability form signed by the parents which must be submitted to one of the following Parade Committee members: Gene Wickey; Leigh Creighton; Jon Schmidt; Guy Hummon; Paul Simpson; or Will Wilkinson prior to Feb. 24th. Should be fun and will give the Lodge great exposure! If you have any questions, contact any of the Committee members who will be glad to help. More details will be provided as we draw near the date of the parade.
