GOLF DAY

On Friday, 22nd November, Years 3-6 will travel into the Grafton Golf Course to play golf. The students have been honing their skills during Active Afternoon Sports (AAS). They will have a short lesson with the Golf Pro and then it’s all FORE! This is a great opportunity to experience a different sport and develop a new skill. Cost is free as the bus is supplied by AAS. A permission note is attached.

SURVEYS

Every year, to provide the best possible education for your child, we are required to gather feedback from our community. Two surveys have been sent home today in plastic sleeves. Participation is both confidential and voluntary. We thank you for your valuable input.

RAFFLE TICKETS

Attached to this week’s Newsletter are tickets for the P & C Christmas Raffle. There are some exciting prizes to be won for all the family. These include 1st prize of two bikes, 2nd prize of a Soda Stream. 3rd prized is a Fun pack and so on. Please return your tickets to school by December 4 to be in the draw.

SWIMMING SCHOOL

Please return swimming permission notes and the swimming survey form so that organisation for next year can begin. Thank you.

STUDENT ASSISTANCE SCHEME

Please consider applying for Student Assistance Scheme to help with swimming costs. Applications close this Friday. Ring the school and we will send home the simple application form.

The school has again subscribed to INSIGHTS and we will from time to time place one of the articles in our newsletter. Michael Grose is a leading parenting educator across Australia and gives clear advice on many issues. Parents at our school can access his website free. It is an excellent resource. PARENTING IDEAS FLYER

The students in Year 3-6 are studying multiculturalism as part of their Australian unit of work. We have been discussing tolerance in society and in our school. This flyer on tolerance was on Michael Grose website and gives you an idea of the easy to read, factual information available on many topics.

CHRISTMAS STALL

The P and C have organised a Christmas stall for Tuesday, 3rd December. There will be great gifts available for the children to purchase for mum and dad or Nan and Pop for Christmas. Items cost from around $1 to $5 maximum. Helpers on the day will be needed.

SWIMMING IN 2014

Over the years we have been able to support swimming with extra funds from the school, the P and C

and other government programs, to keep swimming down to around $50 per child. This year we were

unable to do this and swimming rose to $71 per child, less if you apply for Student Assistance. We un-

derstand that this is a lot of money for many parents, right on Christmas. As we have to apply for

swimming school in 2014 at the end of this year, we are asking parents for your advice. Would you

like swimming to continue?

The following are some of the key points:

* Schools apply to the Department to do swimming and we are given the times and dates, to fit in

around other schools.

* It is held in weeks 6 and 7 one year and weeks 9 and 10 the next.

* We are given 3 qualified swimming instructors who are paid by the Department.

* There must be a ratio of one teacher to 15 students for duty of care so all teachers must attend

swimming.

* Many of our students cannot swim a length of the pool and many who can are not deemed strong

swimmers.

* Most of our older students cannot do correct strokes in freestyle, breastroke and backstroke.

* Swimming will be around $70 dollars again unless extra fundraising is supported.

Taking only K-1-2 students to Ulmarra Pool will cost the same. (costs of bus and swimming instructor

shared between 15 students)

We are trying to meet the needs of our community so please return the swimming survey by next

week. Thank you.
