Highlight of Current Highlight of Current Activities(1/3)Activities(1/3)

• TTA is a GCS Proponent and a Transposing Organization for both LTE-Advanced and Transposing Organization of Wireless MAN-Advanced in IMT-Advanced standardization process of ITU-R WP5D.

• As a Transposing Organization, TTA adopted 3GPP specifications and IEEE 802.16 standards– TTAT.3G-36.101(R10-10.3.0) etc..(same as 3GPP Rel.10

specifications (Aug 26 2011))

– TTAE.IE-802.16m etc (same as IEEE 802.16 standards (16-2009, 16j, 16h, 16m) (Jun 29 2011))

Highlight of Current Activities(3/3)Highlight of Current Activities(3/3)• Participation to CJK White Paper “Forecast of mobile

broadband development in the Asia-Pacific Region” development

– To address the fast growth of mobile data traffic demand and to ensure the great benefits of mobile broadband to the social and economic developments of the Asia-Pacific region.

– To address the challenge of very fast mobile data traffic growth, this paper suggests strategic points such as facilitation of more harmonized IMT spectrum in regional or global basis, identifying additional new spectrum.

• CJK White paper was completed at Sep of 2011 and presented at APG, AWG and referenced in “IMT-Update” Draft recommendation of ITU-R WP5D– CJK: China , Japan, Korea IT standard collaboration meeting– APG: APT Preparatory Meeting for WRC– AWG:APT Wireless Group, APT: Asia Pacific Tellecommunity

Strategic DirectionStrategic Direction• Mobile broadband communications including IMT will

continue to benefit social and economic development of both developing and developed countries through various aspects, including:– economic growth,– mitigation of the digital divide,– improving the quality of life (education, health, entertainment, etc.),

– improving the productivity of other existing industry domains, while at the same time reducing their negative impacts on the climate and the environment,

– driving innovations and new businesses by introducing new services and new business sectors, thus generating additional jobs, and

ChallengesChallenges• In order to make mobile broadband communications a

powerful engine for economic and social development several strategic actions need to be taken to pave the way for future development of mobile broadband including IMT.

• Data traffic over mobile broadband networks has been growing at very fast speed in recent years, and the growth rate is expected to stay at a very high level in the coming 5~10 years.

Next Steps / ActionsNext Steps / Actions• National regulatory bodies need to be encouraged to

facilitate the realization of a much broader amount of IMT spectrum for harmonization at the regional and global level. Harmonization of IMT spectrum brings greater socio-economic value and reduces the cost of both usage and construction of mobile broadband communications.

• SDO & Industries should collaborate with and encourage regulatory bodies to speed up the allocation process because experience has shown that mobile data traffic usually grows much faster than was previously expected.

• It is time to prepare further development of IMT and to study on future technologies.
