As the school day ends, I meet my friends at my locker so we can go to the basketball court. Maria starts filling me in on the latest comic she’s reading as we wait for Liu and Andrew.

“So Chuck, in Thor 3: Thor vs. Iron Man; Iron Man creates..”

And right before she spills the entire plot, the crew arrives.

Page 4: Try Love

Andrew was in the same class as Maria last year and Liu moved here over the summer from California. We all have a lot in common. We enjoy the same music, sports and games. Maria can really play basketball. I think she is the best between us all.

“Did you hear about Anthony?” asked Andrew. “His grandmother doesn’t speak English very well. Today she talked with the teacher and a lot of kids picked on Anthony because of the way she talks.”

“Yea, I really felt bad for him. There were a lot of cruel jokes about their race. It wasn’t very cool to me.” said Liu.

“I can remember when I first moved here, a person yelled at my dad, ‘move back to China!’

My dad said, ‘Hey dude, we’re from Oakland!’” LOL

We usually talk about topics such as MJ vs. Magic or laugh about re-runs of the “Fresh Prince of Belair”, but today our talk about race was helpful.

“I think it’s unfair when we judge people by the color of their skin. Even if I have differences with a person I try to treat them the same way as I would like to be treated.” I explained.

Andrew shared a very good point. He said, “ I think grown ups are worse than kids. Adults can be so childish. If I disagree with you guys on anything let’s get a big bag of popcorn, two grapes, sodas and just talk. If we still can’t agree after the popcorn and sodas, then we’ll hug it out and move on.”

“Wait a minute, what? Who said that? That didn’t sound like any of you guys,” said Maria.

I thought it was a joke because we could hear a voice but no one else was around.

“Hi There!!”

AHHHHHHHHHH (yells, screams)

I heard the expression,If the walls could talk, but this is unbelievable!

“Try Love”

Then the wall started talking again.

“As I said, Try Love. I think it works best. From this view, I’ve seen so many people of different shapes, sizes and colors over the years. The happier people share a common love and respect for one another. True friendship doesn’t see color.

By the way, please consider me a new friend. The name is Wallace. Now if I could only get the brick walls to get along with the dry walls.” LOL

After our game I thought about Wallace’s message. We should all learn to value one another with love and respect. As we left the court I said “Peace” to Wallace.

“Chuck, who are you talking to?” asked Liu.

“Yea who is Wallace?” Andrew replied.

I asked Maria for help here, and she just laughed. Was it all just my imagination? Maybe a day dream? Either way the message was loud and clear. Let’s all Try Love.
